Trang 1

formats: “schedule at-a-glance” and list format

Ways to view this schedule:

• View the entire list of activities, including descriptions & presenters, in list format, organized by start time each day

• Follow the themed strands in the “schedule-at-a-glance.” Click the title to be taken to that activity’s registration page

• If you are looking for a specific activity or presenter, use “Ctrl + F” to search by title or keyword- huge time saver!

Registration:

• Registration is active for all workshops Simply click the link to the activity you’d like to attend, log into

the Portal (if you’re not already logged in), and click the “enroll” button to the left of the activity title

https://webapps.4cd.edu/apps/ProfessionalDevelopment/WorkshopEnrollment.aspx?campus=dvc and clicking the “view your workshops” button near the top Find the item you want to un-enroll from

and click the “remove” button Note: this will only work up until the start time of the activity

2019-2020 Flex Obligation for Full-time Faculty

• There is a total 30-hour obligation for tenured full-time faculty, a 40-hour obligation for second year tenure track

faculty, and a 50-hour obligation for first year tenure track faculty (usually completed in Nexus)

• There are 5 hours of Mandatory Flex each semester for a total of 10 mandatory hours per year

• Full-time “A” contract faculty may choose to complete their Flex obligation over the entire calendar year, July 1

through June 30

• Flex credit cannot be “banked” or “made up” from one academic year to another

Spring 2020 Flex Obligation for Part-time “C” and “AC” Faculty

Part-time faculty have a Flex obligation that is directly related to compensation and the number of instructional days in the semester Flex obligation is based on the academic calendar, more specifically to the day of the week on which classes begin and end

Consequently, the Flex obligation is adjusted each semester The semester start or end date can prevent a full 16-week

semester of class meetings Part-time Flex obligation applies only to adjunct faculty who are teaching face-to-face, full-term

(16-week) classes (it does not apply to online, short-term or late start classes)

For Spring 2020, part-time instructors (and full-time faculty on AC contract) teaching a semester length, face-to-face class, have a flex obligation that is equal to the number of instructional hours taught in a week on Sundays, Mondays, Fridays and

Saturdays In short, if you teach a full term, face-to-face class any day mentioned here, the number of hours of your flex

obligation are equal to the number of hours you teach on those days in one week So if you teach 3 hours on Monday, and

3 hours on Wednesday, you only owe 3 hours If you only teach on Tuesday or Wednesday, you do not have a flex

obligation for spring

Flex activities must be completed during the semester they are required “C” and “A/C” contract faculty may not bank hours and use them in a different semester

Note: non-instructional faculty (i.e., librarians and counselors) with no unit-bearing teaching load do not have a Flex

obligation

SP20-900: It’s Better to Lead Than Lag - How Leading Indicators can Support Making Improvements in Student Success

9:00am-12:00pm The DVC Data Coaching Program and the Research, Planning, and Evaluation Committee is

pleased to present: “It's Better to Lead Than Lag: How Leading Indicators Can Support Making Improvements in Student Success.”

Brad C Phillips with the Institute for Evidenced-Based Change (IEBC) will present research-based models and actionable approaches for using data strategically at community colleges to increase completion rates and student success Brad’s work draws from the fields of psychology,

neuroscience, and behavioral economics to show leaders and administrators can build good habits for engaging with data constructively The workshop is designed to help administrators and faculty identify leading indicators that CCCs can affect and monitor before student failure occurs

The workshop will also help educators make better use of common sources of data, clarify problems to be solved, match research-based interventions to problems, and evaluate results

The workshop will incorporate strategies for college personnel to engage with data more effectively by integrating student stories into presentations and embedding these discussions into existing meetings and routines The content is based on two decades of experience working with colleges across the country, which is captured the textbook Creating a Data-Informed Culture in Community Colleges The workshop will be a valuable contribution to ongoing conversations about appropriate use of information to improve student outcomes A continental breakfast will

be served starting at 8:45am

SP20-610: Creative Approaches to Student Equity

10:00am-11:00am For this activity, I would like to present the results of my engagement with educators across multiple fields in the Arts and Humanities (I will be presenting at an international

conference on this subject and gleaning knowledge from other presenters in January)

involving problems and solutions around inclusivity in the classroom While my specific area

of expertise is Art, I believe this could apply to faculty across all disciplines My plan is to

offer a PowerPoint presentation with bulleted points addressing specific areas in which

students encounter issues with feeling a sense of separation from the experiences of

others, and then address possible strategies for making them feel more connected with

both their fellow students and their instructors I will provide a handout with questions

related to our topic, and facilitate a discussion that relates our experiences and insights to

plans for actionable strategies for our teaching practices Based on everyone's responses
