Candidate Profile
Our District seeks continuous improvement and
growth while maintaining fiscal responsibility We
are looking for a Superintendent who possesses
the following characteristics:
1 A leadership style that is built upon trust,
integrity, enthusiasm, compassion, courtesy,
common sense, attention to detail, and strong
moral and ethical values
2 An ability to engage and involve parents,
com-munity, staff and students in the educational
improvement process
3 A genuine concern for children as
demon-strated by listening, being visible and known
to them, and involvement in their education
and activities
4 The ability to assess and evaluate all levels
of the organization and make appropriate
instructional and fiscal recommendations and
decisions
5 Is a visionary and a good motivator
6 Is knowledgeable about the NYS Learning
Standards and has strong understanding of
curriculum and instruction
7 A desire to be highly visible and deeply involved
in school life and community activities
8 A commitment to bringing school and
com-munity together, ensuring school success
Salary and Contract
The Board plans to offer an initial three-year
contract with a salary range of $110,000-$135,000
depending on the qualifications and experience of
the successful candidate The Afton Central School

The Afton Central School District (ACSD) has a proud heritage of providing a quality education
in an environment of respect, creativity, and academic challenge The district spans 86 square miles in southern Chenango County and currently serves students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade A single structure, which has grown over the years, houses the entire academic program The district grounds support numerous athletic fields,
a playground, transportation, and maintenance facilities as well
The ACSD is committed to helping all students learn This is accomplished by making sure the entire learning community, (teachers, administrators, aides, bus drivers, custodial staff, secretarial staff, additional support staff, and a supportive community) shares in the commitment to ensure our students are prepared
to succeed in college or their careers by the time they graduate A district LINKS team is committed
to making sure that our academic program and instructional practice is tied to academic achievement and success
Student Population—The District serves approxi-mately 560 students and is organized by grades PK-6 and 7-12 The District graduates an average of 40 students per year with approximately 76% continuing
on to college
Staff—The District employs 76 instructional staff and 77 support staff with a Superintendent, two principals and a director of special education overseeing the District’s educational programs
Priorities—Our students, literacy, instructional technology, college credit bearing opportunities, STEAM, quality facilities and excellent programs that serve all our students
Community
ACSD embraces its role as the center of our community We have a unique and ambitious Adult and Continuing Education Program The pool is open early morning and evenings for a variety of aquatic programs Our auditorium is used by the community theatre organization We encourage community involvement in our PTO, Athletic Boosters, Band Boosters and other district committees These opportunities and more can be

proud of our alumni, and pleased that so many
of them continue to serve the District after they graduate The current State Senator of the 52nd District and the County Sheriff are Afton alumni The District is located in the Susquehanna River Valley, halfway between Binghamton and Oneonta
on Interstate 88 It is part of the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Oneida BOCES While maintaining all the advantages of rural life it is only a 45-minute drive to several institutions of higher education including SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Broome, Hartwick College, Binghamton University, and Utica School of Commerce Numerous cultural opportunities also are within easy driving distance including Baseball Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum, and Fenimore Museum in Cooperstown; Oneonta Theatre and Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center; several minor league sports teams, Roberson Museum, Ross Park Zoo, and Maines Veteran Memorial Arena in Binghamton; and finally, the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville which has recently been highlighted by both state and national news organizations

Afton’s academic achievement and success begins with a strong pre-kindergarten program and an elementary staff that is trained and focused on meeting early childhood needs
Teamwork between home and school is vital
to the success of our elementary school An emphasis on inclusive programing and a focused Response-To-Intervention program also are keys to student success
Our Healthy Breakfast and Lunch Program is offered to all students at no charge for those who wish to participate We also host a school backpack program and a school-based food pantry for families in need
Once the students reach the middle-high school they are able to take advantage of numerous programs and opportunities that make ACSD special These include a pool, a 1:1 device program for high school students, college credit-bearing courses, numerous interscholastic athletic opportunities, strong CTE BOCES programs for our juniors and seniors, a robust FFA program, a mock trial team, and numerous other extra-curricular opportunities which have resulted in a number
