The Southeast Local Schools Board of Education met in regular session at 7:00 p.m on Monday, April 24, 2017 in the high school library, 8423 Tallmadge Road, Ravenna, Ohio The meeting was called to order by Board President Lori Loudin-Smith

High School – The High School Band received an excellent rating at state competition Honors Awards night will be held on May 4th and Prom will be held on May 6th Senior Zoe Robertson was awarded a $25,000 Horatio Alger Scholarship The FFA hosted the 65th Annual Banquet Middle School – Student Carly Edwards qualified for state competition with Power of the Pen The Middle School musical will be held on May 5th and 6th

Primary/Intermediate Schools – PTO sponsored the annual father/daughter and mother/son dances and a Paint Night for Teacher Appreciation Week Third nine week awards for

attendance were distributed Primary teacher Angie Briggs was published in a National Journal along with High School teacher Jennifer Baker

New Business: The Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Thursday, May 5th at 6:00 to award bids The Board of Education will hold a work session on Wednesday, June 7th at 5:30 The Board of Education agreed to sign a Waiver of Conflict regarding the upcoming negotiations with SELDTA The treasurer reviewed the Tax Revision requests received from the Portage County Auditor

Maplewood Career Center Report: Mrs Kaley reported the featured program of the month as

“Auto Service Technology” Four Southeast students (2 juniors and 2 seniors) were presented with perfect attendance for the 3rd nine weeks Maplewood held their annual Dinner with a Teacher on April 5th

Legislative Liaison Report: Mrs Kaley reported that the proposed biennium budget includes over $400 million in state budget cuts Mary also read from an article in the Plain Dealer

regarding SB85 which would greatly expand the controversial school voucher program Mrs Kaley attended the OSBA Spring Leadership training

Other Business: Mr Dunn commented on the decision of the Portage County Board of

Disabilities to continue to serve special needs students Mr Witkosky noted the March 24, 2017 article in the Record Courier signed by members of the Portage County Board of Disabilities and Superintendent, Omar Nagi, which memorialized their commitment to work closely with local school districts to provide services to students with developmental disabilities
