ANNETTE CITZLER ‘72
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNA
Dr Annette Citzler ’72, faculty emeritus, has long been a President’s Associate Over the course of 43 years, she was a professor of Business (finance) and Economics at Texas Lutheran University During her tenure she taught, advised, and inspired several thousand students She also served on many university committees, and was twice named Distinguished Faculty Member, in 1988 and 2018 She is an active alum who has created two endowments, in addition to her lifelong service to TLC/TLU In the 1980’s she oversaw the international studies program, and led a total of 21 students on three separate study abroad experiences on three continents She delayed retirement to serve as the interim Vice President of Academic Affairs Annette was also the recipient of the esteemed state-wide Piper Professor Award for
1995 and now serves on the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Board She has founded and/or served
on the board of a number of other non-profit organizations, including chairing the board of the ELCA Publishing House, Augsburg Fortress in the early 2000’s She is now happily retired and living in La Grange at the Citzler Homeplace.
AUSTIN MANNING ‘11
OUTSTANDING YOUNG GRADUATE
After graduating from TLU, Austin worked as a stage manager at Sea World in San Antonio, before completing his M.F.A from the University of Virginia He is currently serving as the Assistant Technical Director at the Zach Theatre in Austin, Texas He has been on the Alumni Board since he graduated in
2011, serving as Treasurer and Vice President as well as multiple years on the Day of Giving Committee and participation in Alumni & Family Weekend He is also involved heavily with the Federation of Gay Games, a quadrennial LGBTQ+ sporting and cultural event with 15,000 participants, serving most recently
as the co-chair of the 2026 Gay Games Site Selection committee and as a Culture and Ceremonies com-mittee member since 2018 Austin serves on the executive comcom-mittee and is co-captain of Austin Power
FC, an LGBTQ+ soccer club within AMSA, since 2016 He has made annual gifts to a variety of areas on campus, most notably supporting the Omega Tau Endowed Scholarship, the Dramatic Media department, and TLU’s Day of Giving projects Austin also supports the H.E.A.R.T Program in Houston, Tx with annual gifts to support their life skills and career training for adults with intellectual/development disabilities.

The gold TLU honors cords are presented to
graduates who have achieved the recognition
Honors–Cum Laude (3.5 GPA), High Honors–
Magna Cum Laude (3.75 GPA), or Highest
Honors–Summa Cum Laude (3.9 GPA)
These cords are presented to the graduates as
they cross the stage
Alpha Chi
Alpha Chi is a national academic honor society
open to undergraduates in the top ten percent
of junior and senior classes The purpose of
Al-pha Chi is to promote academic excellence and
exemplary character among college students
The colors of Alpha Chi are emerald green and
sapphire blue, signifying victory and truth
Alpha Lambda Delta
Alpha Lambda Delta is the national honor
society for first-year university students Full
time students who have earned a minimum
GPA of 3.5 in the first semester of university
are invited to join At graduation, students
who have maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA
are presented with Alpha Lambda Delta cords,
three cords in the ALD colors of white, red,
and gold, which are worn with academic
regalia
Alpha Mu Gamma
Alpha Mu Gamma is a national foreign
lan-guage honor society open to full time students
with at least two final course grades of “A” in
the same foreign language The students must
also have maintained a minimum grade point
average of 3.0 in all of their college level work
The color of the society is gold, symbolizing
truth, light and intelligence
Beta Beta Beta
Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society
members are biology majors in good academic
standing who have completed at least 12 hours
of biology with at least a B average in those
courses The cords are red (representing
zoolo-gy) and green (representing botany)
Delta Epsilon Iota
Delta Epsilon Iota’s mission is to educate its
membership on career development issues,
encourage students to excel academically, and
promote the principles of dedication,
enthu-siasm, and initiative in all aspects of campus
life The colors of Delta Epsilon Iota are blue
and gold
Delta Mu Delta
Delta Mu Delta is the international honor so-ciety for business administration Honor cords are gold and purple Membership in Delta Mu Delta is offered to the junior and senior busi-ness majors and minors who rank in the top
20 percent of the students within the Business Administration and Economics Department
Iota Tau Alpha
Iota Tau Alpha is the national honor society for athletic training education and the colors are red, yellow and blue The purpose of Iota Tau Alpha is the promotion and encouragement
of scholarly activity in athletic training and the recognition of outstanding achievement among students enrolled in athletic training education programs
Lambda Pi Eta
Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the com-munication studies discipline, encourages high standards of scholarship and a commitment to professional development It is named for Ar-istotle’s three modes of rhetoric, Logos, Pathos, and Ethos Its colors are crimson, to represent the communication studies discipline, and silver, to represent speech and oratory
Phi Alpha Theta
Phi Alpha Theta is the national honor society
in history The satin honor cords worn by society members at graduation are in the society colors of blue and Madonna red with a multi-colored tassel at each end
Pi Lambda Theta
Pi Lambda Theta is the international honor society and professional association in educa-tion High-ranking students who are seeking teaching certification are nominated for mem-bership by TLU faculty members
The society honors its graduates with gold cords
Psi Chi
Psi Chi is the international honor society for psychology, and the organization’s colors are blue and gold Students must be psychology majors or minors and their GPAs must be in the top 35 percent of the class, both in psy-chology and overall Psi Chi sponsors service projects and academic activities relating to psychology
Sigma Pi Sigma
Sigma Pi Sigma is the national honor society for physics Students elected to membership must attain high standards of general scholar-ship and outstanding achievement in physics The society honors its graduates with green and ivory cords
Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta’s central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature The colors
of Sigma Tau Delat are black and red
Theta Alpha Kappa
Theta Alpha Kappa, whose color is red, is the only national honor society serving the needs
of those involved in the study of religion and/
or theology at both the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels of higher education Honoring excellence in these academic fields is its primary puropose
TLU Honors Program
The Texas Lutheran University Honors Pro-gram includes students who have
demonstrat-ed academic promise through high grades and test scores, interviews, essays, and recom-mendations At graduation, students who have completed the honors curriculum are presented with honors medallions to be worn with academic regalia
