MONEY MANAGEMENT CENTER

TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY Maroon Money Mentors

The Maroon Money Mentor Program is designed to provide peer-facilitated financial education

to the students at Texas Woman’s University through the Student Money Management Center (SMMC) Maroon Money Mentors provide one-on-one sessions, facilitate presentations and workshops, and participate in the support of social media, special events, and projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications of a Maroon Money Mentor:

● Be a student at Texas Woman’s University in good standing

● Have a 3.0 GPA or higher

● Be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student

● Have the ability to work a minimum of 10 hours each week

● Have availability to work Orientations in the summer including early morning sessions

● Have interest or past experience with money management, such as a personal

finance course, employment, or extracurricular involvement

● Demonstrate communication skills, motivation, and dedication

● Demonstrate ability to work well with others and independently

● Have a positive attitude with a friendly demeanor

● Have a willingness and desire to learn and present money management topics

● Preference given to those who commit to at least one academic year (fall, spring, and summer semesters) of service to the SMMC as a Maroon Money Mentor

Primary Responsibilities and Expectations of a Maroon Money Mentor:

This position offers the opportunity to promote financial education by providing money

management information and resources to the TWU campus community You will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with students and participate in leading group

presentations/workshops In addition, you will have the opportunity to write and update social media posts This position will also provide beneficial work experience for future employment

Maroon Money Mentor responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Complete all scheduled one-on-one coaching sessions and office hours as assigned

● Update responsibly and effectively the SMMC’s social media accounts

● Complete all of the assigned workshops, presentations, special events, and evaluations

as set by your supervisor

● Maintain a working knowledge of personal finance concepts that influence the content

of your presentations and coaching sessions

● Work independently and communicate any issues or concerns that arise

● Answer incoming calls and emails requesting one-on-one sessions and

presentations

● Respect students’ rights to confidentiality and follow legal guidelines regarding

dispersal of information

● Act as a representative for the SMMC within the campus community

● Adhere to all University policies, rules and regulations including the Student

Code of Conduct

● Adhere to the SMMC policies and procedures

● Attend all scheduled training and meetings such as weekly SMMC team

meetings and training sessions

● Attend annual performance evaluation and learning assessment meeting with

SMMC Coordinator

● Complete other duties as assigned by the SMMC Coordinator

Evaluation and Compensation of Maroon Money Mentor:

Maroon Money Mentors are evaluated regularly to ensure they are meeting all expectations and performing their job duties effectively Those who do not meet expectations may not be asked to return

The pay rate for Maroon Money Mentors begins at $10 per hour With experience and

excellent evaluations, a Maroon Money Mentor may be given additional responsibilities and an increase in the hourly wage

The SMMC understands you are first and foremost a student The schedule will be flexible to accommodate classes and academic commitments

Learning Outcomes of being a Maroon Money Mentor:

● Students will communicate and interact effectively with other students to foster a diverse and inclusive work environment

● Students will demonstrate effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication

skills

● Students will relate effectively with co-workers and succeed within a team

structure

● Students will obtain, interpret, and use knowledge, facts, and data to analyze

issues, make decisions, and overcome problems

● Students will demonstrate personal accountability, effective work habits, and ethical behavior

● Students will transfer curricular and co-curricular knowledge to real-world work

experiences
