Now is a great time to prepare to be a high school business or computer teacher! Jobs are available in rural areas, middle-sized towns, and large cities in Kansas! The Helen Dow Scholarship for business (teacher) education students attending ESU was set up by a former high school business teacher - Helen Dow
Availability
◊ Three $1,000 scholarships awarded to high school seniors and/or community college students
◊ Awarded to high school seniors and community college students who plan to major in
business (teacher) education at Emporia State University and plan to become middle school/high school business teachers
◊ Current recipients will be considered for Helen Dow scholarships in subsequent years along with other
undergraduate business education majors
◊ Must successfully complete a minimum of 12 credit hours at Emporia State during the first semester,
continue to declare business education as their major, enroll in course work in that major, AND attain a minimum 2.5 GPA for the fall semester in order to receive the spring semester disbursement
If a student receives a separate Hornet Scholarship based on the student’s ACT score, the Helen Dow scholarship would

Guidelines
Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, perceived desire to be a business teacher, communication skills, business course background, and extracurricular activities
Complete and return the following application process by Monday, February 25, 2013
Write a one-page, double-spaced word processed essay on why you want to be a high school business teacher and how your background (courses taken, extra-curricular activities, and/or work experience) prepares you to work with young people and be a business teacher
Mail the essay anda resume to Dr Nancy Hite, Dept of Bus Administration & Education, Emporia State University, 1200 Commercial, Emporia, KS 66801
Include the following in your resume:
• Your current grade point average (GPA) in high school
• A list of the student organizations in which you have been a member or officer
• A list of business courses you have taken
• A description of work experiences or volunteer experiences with young people
• A list of your other extracurricular activities
Additional item required (in addition to essay and resume)
• A signed recommendation form from a business teacher in your school (See form below.)
• This recommendation form may be faxed to Dr Nancy Groneman Hite at 620-341-6345 or mailed to
Dr Nancy Hite, Dept of Business Admin & Education, Emporia State University, 1200 Commercial, Emporia,
KS 66801 by the deadline –Monday, February 25, 2013
Notification will be sent only to those selected to receive an award
