ABOUT ST PETER AND

WATER FRONT WARD

Community

 76 percent of residents are very/fairly satisfied with their

local area as a place to live

 The ward has a high density of housing with a strong

sense of community

 Residents would like to see more police on the streets as

there is a lot of ASB

 Union Street is in dire need of infrastructure support

 Green spaces/walks need to be protected

 Main roads divide communities

 Greater mix of uses for the city centre to meet the needs

of residents

Schools – OFSTED ratings

There are seven Primary schools, one All through school,

one ACE provision and one children’s centre Five have an

OFSTED rating of ‘good’, three ‘outstanding’ and one which

‘requires improvement’

Health

Lifestyle Choices made by residents (HAY 2017) The

findings from the HAY quiz provide useful insights about the

behaviours and lifestyle choices of Plymouth respondents

Across the 5 health areas, St Peter and Waterfront residents

gave responses, in particular :

 More people in this ward made ‘healthy’ choices in

relation to “Drinking” than the city average

 The ward has the 2nd highest levels of residents who are

motivated by ‘independence’ to change their lifestyle

 The ward also has the 2nd highest levels of residents who

are motivated by their ‘social life’ to change their lifestyle

 However, more people in this ward made un-healthy

choices in relation to smoking than the majority of the city

Housing

 St Peter and Waterfront ward is ranked as the most

deprived ward in the city

 79.6 percent of residents live in houses that are in Council

tax band A and B

 33.3 percent of the private sector housing stock was

classed as ‘non-decent homes’ in 2010 This is below the

city-wide figure

 13.2 percent of the private sector housing stock was not

in a reasonable state of repair in 2010 This is above the

city-wide figure
