Post-Bae Certific te in Secondary
Education, Physical Science
I am an Elko native and 1995 graduate of Elko
High School After 20 years in the Army, I
was loolcing for a transition from military life
to the civilian workforce I earned my
BSAST in Aviation Jo iaintenance Technology
from Thomas Edison State University, but
wanted to teach in my hometm~n The Post
-Bac Certificate program at GBC allowed me
to complete the physical science courses I
needed "'-bile taking the education courses and
student teaching
challenging classes that relate directly to the
profession and staffed by people who have
spent years in the profession They helped me
make connections with the local school
district and allowed me to work with highly
qualified and experienced teachers during
student teaching They gave me the
constructii·e criticism needed to improve
Upon completing the program, GBC helped
me with recommendations and the hiring
process I am now teaching at my a.Ima mater
and giving back to the community
BA Elementa1y Educ.ation
Deciding to further your education is a life changing decision It
is a special journey for each and every person who makes this
decision I began pursuing my elemental)• education degree at
G.-eat Basin College in 2006 right after I graduated from high school Due to several circumstances beyond m control, I had
to take a break from college I was only four classes and student teaching shy of completing my degree It was so hard stopping when I was so close to graduating, but in the end, it worked out
to be the best decision
\Vhen I finally returned in spring of 2015 I was greeted with a new education instructor Teresa Stauffer was like a breath of fresh air She brou ht so much passion and excitement to the program I was beyond excited to return and lmish my classes
after meeting with her During student teaching, I had the
opportunity to work with Tom Reagan and Teresa Stauffer They were a wonderful team and each shared an invaluable amowit of
knowledge with us They provided immense support, immediate feedback offered meaningful suggestions, and guided us to become distinguished student teachers I am eternally grateful I had the opportWlity to learn and teach under their guidance
1\ow that I have graduated and recei\·ed my license, I plan to
accept a position as soon as my youngest child starts Kindergarten I am very fortunate to ha\'e been already offered se\·eral positions at Flag View Intermediate and Northside
Elementary I would love to work with students in the 5th grade and younger After se\·eral years in the classroom I would like to
get my Gifted and Talented endorsement and eventually teach in the GT program

BA Secondary Education, Biology
I have two passions, learning and science
G.-eat Basin College's Education Program was the perfect fit for me because it combined my two passions into a single career, teaching The Education Program at GBC is an excellent
teacher prep program I completed the program feeling competent in my content area as well as the various aspects of education The
instructors and faculty that make up the Education Department is the number one reason the program has become so successful
The instructors spend cowitless hours ensuring their student's needs ha\·e been met, by providing students with excellent instruction and academic advising The faculty in the department are very helpful They always
supply students with essential information about the program and scholarship opportunities This program does a great job of
emphasizing peer interaction through discussion and reflection My peers were v ry supportive and helped me grow as a student and an educator during m time at GBC The
Education Program at GBC will always hold a special place in my heart It has made my dream career become a reality In addition the program has provided me with resources and friendships that will last a lifetime

Trang 12Alignment with School Districts and Workforce Demands
gathers stakeholders from the rural districts, Nevada
Department of Education, Board of Regents, and industry
partnership with the rural districts to address the immediate
shortage in the teacher pipeline We continually modify it to
meet the needs of the districts
Trang 13Barriers in the Teacher Pipeline
0 Many reasons exist for the national enrollment decline in teacher
preparation programs Nevada's commitment to the Teach Nevada
Scholarship program allows GBC to change the narrative that the
profession is valued, and increase recruitment
° Funding for NSHE programs is driven by student credit hours, so
resources are scarce to impact graduates after they enter the
profession GBC is strengthening partnerships with the Northeastern
Nevada Regional Professional Development Program to mentor first
year teachers and ARL candidates Continued funding for the RPDPs is
critical
