College Admissions Testing Required

by UC and CSU Systems

SAT Reasoning Test (2 parts: Math,

Reading/Writing) Each part has a max score of 800 Total Maximum score of 1600 www.sat.org/register

OR

ACT Assessment plus Optional Writing (5 parts:

Math, Reading, Science, English and Writing) Total

Maximum score of 36 www.actstudent.org

Beginning with the class of 2012 the UC’s will no

longer require SAT Subject Tests (Still Recommended

by certain majors!)

All exams must be completed by Dec of the Senior

year!

Sending SAT, ACT or AP Scores

 CSUs only look at Critical Reading and Math and take highest composite score.

 Take SAT/ACT more than once.

 Last SAT/ACT to take for seniors is in December

 Official Scores must be sent from the student’s

Collegeboard or ACT account !

 Send UC scores to one campus– all campuses will have access to those scores.

 AP scores are self reported during the application process Official scores do not need to be sent

until after acceptance

How Many Schools Should I Apply to?

 It’s a good idea to apply to at least 6-8

 Shoot for your dream school, but have a list

of several safe schools that you feel

reasonably sure will accept you

 Consider application costs (Approx $70 for

UC and $55 for CSU per application)

 Apply for application fee waivers if you

think you qualify

 Free Application for Federal Student Aid:

– FAFSA is available Oct 1st-Mar 2nd

– Should be completed by ALL seniors

– Application will screen student

eligibility for loans, grants, and work study
