Use the link above to download and read carefully the programme specification as that gives you a lot more detail about the aims and content of the course
Indicative timetable
The Autumn term for Producers can feel very intensive, with lots of introductory sessions aimed at getting you familiar with the various departments, courses, fellow students and the wide range of staff that are part of Central’s post-graduate community In first week you should plan to be in all day, each day but then in the following weeks, we try to keep Wednesdays free for Student Union or student led activity A more detailed indicative schedule is overleaf Although we tend to avoid taught sessions in the evening, there will be three sessions to introduce the Performing Research unit and a couple of theatre visits (dates to be confirmed once the term is underway)
The indicative schedule for the Autumn term is as follows, a typical day is 9.30am – 5pm, but you will
be advised nearer the time as to exact times for each session
(Tutor led Workshops &
(Tutor or student led activity ) 10-5pm
Wednesday Independent study
(for student led work on either Cultural Landscapes or Creative Entrepreneur units Student Union time in afternoons weeks one to five)
Thursday Creative Entrepreneur / Practices

(Tutor or student led activity )
Cultural Landscapes
(Student led Seminars / Visits or Independent research)
Trang 2Preparatory activities
There are no course related preparatory activities, however students tell us that it’s useful to
connect on Facebook before the course starts and you are always welcome to join us at the
Edinburgh Festival Alumni Gatherings in mid August (watch the events page for more info on dates)
We also have a Course Specific Facebook Group which you can join when you enrol on the course
Reading list
Central has a very good specialist library and as a college of the University of London means that you have access to the excellent resources of Senate House, however there are some books that you are going to want to have by your side all the way through I’ve asked our current students which books that they have found most useful during the course, so here are their suggestions, you don’t need to read these in advance of the course starting
Bogart, A ‘What’s the Story- Essays about art, theatre and storytelling’ Routledge (2014)
Harvie, J &
Etchells, T ‘Theatre and the City’ Palgrave Macmillan
Allain, P &
Harvie, J ‘The Routledge Companion to Theatre and Performance’ Routledge (2014)
Harvie, J ‘Fair Play – Art Performance and Neoliberalism’ Palgrave Macmillan (2013)
Kaiser, M ‘The Cycle – A practical approach to managing arts organisations’ Brandeis University Press (2013)
Pink, D
‘To Sell is Human – the surprising truth about persuading,
convincing and influencing others’
Brandeis University Press (2013)
Poole, E ‘Leadersmithing – the trade secrets of leadership’ Bloomsbury Business (2017)
Programme specific requirements
Laptop / Tablets
You will be responsible for documenting your own work on the course, and whilst specialist
equipment may be booked out from the School’s Library and Technical Support Services, you will find
it very useful to have a tablet / laptop to take notes and also keep reading materials (many of the books that we recommend at the base of this letter are much cheaper as kindle editions) Please note that there is no onsite personal storage, so please ensure your devices are with you at all times and are insured
Useful online resources
Trang 3Business and Enterprise
Clark, Osterwalder and Pigneur, Y (2012) Business Model Generation : Publisher - John Wiley and Sons
In previous years we have suggested people buy these, but you can download the essential
elements for BMG for free https://www.strategyzer.com/canvas/business-model-canvas
and for Value Proposition Design here then during the course decide if you would like to have your own hard copy
Entrepreneurial Models - Effectuation – Publications on this are pricy, so suggest that you don’t
buy anything just yet Do have a look at this PDF which explains the basic principles
www.effectuation.org/sites/default/files/documents/effectuation-3-pager.pdf
Audiences Agency – Great resources and sign up for their digital updates
https://www.theaudienceagency.org/services
Centre for Cultural Value – a centre dedicated to building a shared understanding of the differences
that arts, culture, heritage and screen make to people’s lives and to society Useful to keep in touch with current debates in the sector https://www.culturalvalue.org.uk/
Additional Costs
We will also be suggesting performances, exhibitions and events for you to see, and see this as an important part of your first term at Central Although you can use your own discretion as to how much you spend on this, we suggest you budget at least £20.00 a week for this purpose in the first term
For more information on additional course costs, see the Additional Costs page
We are acutely conscious of the safety and wellbeing of students on the programme, as well as the quality of learning opportunities that we can offer in light of current restrictions relating to the Coronavirus pandemic We intend to deliver teaching in-person and on-site when the programme commences next autumn, but we will continue to monitor the situation in line with our own risk assessments – which will be dependent on government guidelines and restrictions at the time of delivery We are closely following the government restrictions, and will be in touch should there be any further change You can follow the government guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus With all good wishes for the year ahead and looking forward to welcoming you in October
