17th September 2020 Dear Parent/Carers,
Recovery Curriculum and Assessment for Learning
We will follow the national curriculum as required in each year group, with consideration
given to the loss of schooling experienced by children to different extents during the Summer
Term Subject leaders will identify the threshold concepts needed to ensure progression and
support teachers to be able to ensure these are effectively grasped by children All new
learning will be introduced initially by linking to previous learning, allowing teachers to
assess where children are, and to address any gaps or misconceptions We will include
aspects of a ‘Recovery Curriculum’ designed to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing at this
time of transition and change
Online learning and Homework:
We will continue to use Google Classroom in Years 4, 5 and 6 to share ‘take home tasks’ for
year group topic work and for ‘year group homework activities’ between home and school in
order to build on the children’s computing skills and to be able to quickly move to online
provision for any whole classes who are required to self-isolate
Continued Access to Google Classroom:
All pupils have been reintroduced to the platform during their computing sessions in school
The Google Classroom is available for pupils to share work with the class teacher, although
class streams (where messages and comments can be posted by pupils) remain closed If a
pupil requires a reminder of their username or password, they can ask their class
teacher
New Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 September 2020:
For any pupils new to the school, before an account for the Google Classroom can be
created, you will need to review the ‘Terms and Conditions’ for the account (this will be sent
out to you by ping and/or provided by the office) Provided that you give consent, we will
then create an account for your child, details of which will be provided by the class teacher
Year 3 Only Online Learning:
In Years 3 we will be continuing with ‘Seesaw’ which is the online learning platform West
Hove Infants used during the children’s time away from school This is to support their
continued online learning and transition to junior school The pupils will be reintroduced to
the platform during their computing sessions in school Pupils will be able to use the platform
to complete their fortnightly homework activities and share any ‘take home tasks’ with the
class teacher Pupils can login from home using the web address
https://app.seesaw.me/#/login and entering the unique code provided by their class teacher
If your child has to self-isolate:
A year group resource letter will be sent to you which will include directing parents/carers to
the resources provided by the Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize which will support families in
delivering learning at home The school will continue to use ‘Timestable Rockstars’ and
‘Sumdog’ to support the maths curriculum
