infants younger than 3 months of age, but should only be considered if the pain is not accompanied by other findings or symptoms (see Chapter 20 Crying ) Other causes of recurrent abdominal pain in infants must also be considered These include gastroesophageal reflux, intussusception; malrotation with intermittent volvulus; mild-protein allergy; and various malabsorptive diseases such as cystic fibrosis, celiac disease, and lactase deficiency
