Surveys the history of organized violence in North America from approximately 1250 CE through the War of 1812 Attention is paid

to the persistent interplay between Native American, African, and European styles of warfare and their effects on early modern societies and economies

the present The focus will largely

fall on issues of diplomacy with equal partners,

notably the two World Wars and the Cold War However, there will

be substantial discussion of asymmetrical diplomacy, such as Caribbean interventions and the Vietnam War.
