This 8-hour course takes communicators 'behind the scenes' of what is going
on in officer’s and caller’s minds The course looks at how perceptions control decision making, the process we all go through to make those decisions and how those decisions effect the outcome of an event
The course also looks at the legal, moral and ethical ramifications of what is communicated in a public safety environment using case studies, court cases and other media to show communicators in graphic detail what happens on the other side of the microphone

Instructor: Captain Scott Oldham is a twenty-seven year law enforcement veteran, currently in charge of operations with over twenty
years assigned to his agency’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit He progressed through the ranks of the Team serving in various roles including those of Entry Team leader and primary SWAT School Instructor He ultimately had the honor of serving as the overall Team Commander before leaving to accept promotion, becoming one of the Agency’s designated ‘Incident Commanders’ Over the last decade Captain Oldham has instructed officers from many different law enforcement agencies on a wide variety of operational and tactical areas One of those areas is the importance of public safety communicators and the special role they play in every call they receive and every call they dispatch Success in that role comes from training, experience and positive interaction with sworn
personnel and vice-versa He is a firm believer in the “team” concept between communications officers and police officers, fire-fighters and EMS and promotes its implementation in every course he teaches
