SPEAKER INFORMATION

RENDA J BURKHART, CPA, Founder and President of Burkhart & Company, P.C

With more than 30 years of concentrated experience, Renda has developed considerable expertise in supporting enterprising individuals in tax and financial management Two focal points are creating and preserving wealth from the entrepreneurial process and supporting wealthy families in coordinating financial services Her firm provides “back office” functions

to multiple family offices She focuses especially on the individual estate management process and related areas including the harvesting of returns from the privately-owned businesses, succession planning, personal goal setting and charitable planning

In addition, Renda has served on numerous boards including public and supporting Foundations and serves as Treasurer and Board Member of University Health Systems She is involved in numerous community initiatives and maintains an active interest in the development of individual Firm members

Renda graduated with highest honors from the University of Tennessee Prior to Burkhart & Company, Renda worked for Arthur Andersen & Company in its Chattanooga and Knoxville offices

DR JERRY W ASKEW, Senior Vice President for External Affairs, Mercy Health Partners

Dr Jerry W Askew is Senior Vice President for External Affairs for Mercy Health Partners Prior to joining

Mercy in 2001, he served as President and CEO of the East Tennessee Foundation

Jerry’s career in Knoxville began in 1985 when he was appointed Dean of Students at the University of

Tennessee He went on to serve as Associate Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs while

holding faculty appointments in the Leadership Studies and University Honors departments Jerry received

his BA from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, his MS from

the University of Memphis and his PhD from Ohio State

Jerry has been extremely active since his arrival in Knoxville, serving on the boards of over 30 different

non-profit organizations at the local, state and national levels

Jerry and his wife, Robyn, a lawyer and commercial real estate developer, have two children—son, Taylor

(20), a junior Tennessee Tech, and daughter Avery (16), a junior at the Webb School The Askews are

active members of St John’s Episcopal Cathedral where Jerry serves as a lay minister in the Cathedral’s

healing ministry

Debra Palmer George has over 25 years of experience in the business sector and in

volunteer community service Debra founded her practice, Palmer Solutions, as a

consultant and facilitator in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors Her practice is

dedicated to the research, development and implementation of practical,

sustainable approaches to achieving meaningful, measurable results In her work

with a wide range of organizations, she seeks to facilitate discovery of the best of

“what is” and “what is hoped for” as the basis for making effective individual and

organizational choices She is committed to lifelong learning and development and

is certified in the Weatherhead School of Management Executive Education at Case

Western Reserve in the Certificate of Appreciative Inquiry

TIM McLEMORE, President of Gentry Tipton & McLemore, P.C.

Tim McLemore graduated with high honors from the University of Tennessee College of Law and was selected to be a member of the Order of the Coif, and on the editorial board

of the Tennessee Law Review Tim has been a practicing attorney with Gentry Tipton &

McLemore, P.C since 1986 and has been President of the firm since 2000.

Mr McLemore also earned a post-graduate law degree (LL.M) in Taxation from New York

University School of Law While there, he served as a Graduate Editor of the NYU Tax Law

Review

For more than 10 years, Mr McLemore served as an adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee College of Law teaching courses in taxation, contract drafting, the representation of entities, advocacy and legal writing Mr McLemore is a frequent presenter

at continuing education seminars, and serves on various boards, including Emerald Youth Foundation, Knox Area Rescue Ministries, the Credit Bureau of Knoxville and previously was a director of Knoxville’s Habitat for Humanity Mr McLemore was selected to be a member of the 2008 class of Leadership Knoxville

For more than twenty years, Tim has represented businesses and business owners in complex commercial, corporate, tax and business transactions

Mr McLemore has been admitted to practice law in all Tennessee courts, the U.S District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Tennessee, the U.S Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the U.S Tax Court, the U.S Claims Court and the U.S Supreme Court He is

a member of the Knoxville, Sevier County, Tennessee and American Bar Associations

CELESTE H HERBERT, Partner, Reeves, Herbert and Murrian, PA

Celeste Huffman Herbert is in practice with Reeves, Herbert & Murrian, P.A., where she has a general civil law practice Ms Herbert is a member of the American, Tennessee, and Knoxville Bar Associations and a member of the Hamilton Burnett American Inn of Court She was a member of the 2006 Leadership Knoxville class and presently serves on the Board of Leadership Knoxville

She has served on several non-profit boards, serving as Chair of the Board of the Better Business Bureau and serving in several capacities with the Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council, Inc Presently, Ms Herbert serves

as Secretary of the Board of the Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council, Inc Ms Herbert received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Tennessee

RICHARD JOHNSON, President and Founder of Hopewell, LLC

A Richard (Rick) Johnson is President and Founder of Hopewell, LLC, a Tennessee-based company that

helps companies and institutions make the well-being of their employees a core value Hopewell

offers design and implementation of planning, communication, and performance measurement, with a

focus on organizational health and wellness The company provides programs for fitness, diet and

nutrition, stress management, smoking cessation, and chronic disease management It also supplies

on-going reports, data, and information to a client network, operates a speakers’ bureau, and conducts

seminars, conferences, and webinars

Prior to founding Hopewell, Mr Johnson was Senior Vice President and an executive officer of Ruby

Tuesday, Inc., Vice President of Dollar General Corporation, and headed a management consulting

company based in Nashville

He is a Knoxville native, attended the University of Tennessee, and is married and has two children

He serves on the National Advisory Council of Maryville College, the Board of Directors of Second

Harvest, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and Emerald Youth Foundation, and he donates his time

to help non-profit organizations with analysis and planning
