Trang 2The Austin Area Task Force of the Texas Council on Autism and
Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) includes representatives from Williamson, Travis, and Hays Counties in central Texas
Representatives include parents of children, adolescents, and adults with autism and PDD, representatives from the Autism Society of
Greater Austin, area school district personnel, area MHMR personnel, private agency personnel, the autism specialist from Education Service Center 13, and private care providers The charge of the Task Force is
to regularly provide feedback to the Texas Council regarding needs of individuals with autism and PDD in the Austin area and
recommendations for their state plan While proceeding with this task,
it became apparent that parents and professionals in this geographic region needed a comprehensive resource guide This document was compiled and will be disseminated with the assistance of ASGA.
The Autism Society of Greater Austin (ASGA) is a chapter of the Autism Society of America (ASA) ASGA and ASA share a straightforward
mission: improving the lives of all affected by autism ASGA strives to
do this by advocating for the education and training of parents and professionals involved in educating and caring for persons with autism; helping develop a better understanding of the challenges of persons with autism and their families throughout the central Texas area by serving as a clearinghouse for information about autism; and, most importantly, providing parents with pertinent and current information
so they may be better advocates for their children with autism.
Please note that reference in this manual to any treatment or therapy option or to any program, service or treatment provider is not an
endorsement of those treatments, therapy options, programs, services
or providers by ASGA, ASA, or the Task Force In addition, such
references to treatment or therapy options, programs, services or providers are not intended to be comprehensive statements of all those that are available We recommend that readers investigate other resources to obtain additional information for individual applications ASGA and the Task Force assume no responsibility for the use made of any information published in this manual
Volunteer members of ASGA and the Austin Task Force of the Texas Council for Autism and PDD compiled this resource guide We have made every effort to ensure that this list is accurate, but we recognize that some of this information may change Please help us by e-mailing any additions, changes, corrections, or suggestions to tx-
austin@autismsocietyofamerica.org Thank you in advance for
helping future users of this list.
