Vermont-NEA is partnering with Castleton University to provide the class Reflective Practice and Developing
a Peer Review Portfolio.
When: Classes 9am – 5 pm on 11/12, 1/21, & 3/11, plus offline work between classes Additionally, there will
be optional candidate workdays at Vermont-NEA in the Spring
Where: Vermont-NEA Conference Room, Montpelier, VT
Who: Educators wishing to create a certification portfolio in preparation for the Peer Review Alternative Route
to Certification Process
Cost: $1750 credit/ $1350 noncredit
Participates should read the requirements and overview of Peer Review Program and complete step 1 prior to the first class Directions for step one can be found http://education.vermont.gov/sites/aoe/files/documents/edu-educator-quality-peer-review-program-overview.pdf Step 1 includes applying to the program through the online system (ALiS)

Course Description: This course supports and guides teachers pursuing initial licensure or adding
endorsements to their Vermont teaching license Participants need to be in a school setting for student teaching will not be arranged through this course As part of this course, participants examine the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards (Vermont Core Teaching Standards) and content endorsement standards and develop an electronic portfolio demonstrating their competency on each standard through the collection of artifacts and a written commentary that describes, analyzes and reflects on the evidence
Objectives:
Define, identify, and practice the three types of writing: descriptive, analytical, and reflective
Review, critique, and provide constructive feedback to others
Research best practices related to teaching content
Develop unit and lesson plans that include appropriate standards for the content, clear assessments (formative/summative), activities to engage learners and are differentiated to meet the individual needs
of students
Understand, apply, and document the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards and applicable Vermont Content Endorsement Standards
Analyze and reflect on teaching practices utilizing video from classroom practice
Complete an online portfolio ready for submission into the Peer Review Process
Scholarships for Peer Review Fees available for Vermont-NEA Members
