Part 1

he night was cold as late snow continued to fall early in March in Norway It was extremely quiet in Celina's winter home The house stood alone at the top of the mountain; the house was some good distance away from the next inhabited house Celina was a member of the Vitrian community in Norway The Vitrians were a unique set of people with special abilities, they could see and fight demons However, the young woman in her mid-twenties had been told

to leave the Fortress, where all Vitrians lived and go rest at her family winter home

Celina listened to a conversation in the middle of the night at almost 3:00am at one

of the Norwegian mountains She placed her ear gently against the door and heard a man's voice that she recognized very well What she was hearing was unbelievable, it seemed all her fears and the visions she had been having about children being captured or dying had just come to reality

“Now is the time to do it,” The man said

“Are you sure sir?” The woman in the room with him asked for confirmation “There

is no going back now, she will be distraught when she wakes up and can't find her son.”

“You and your sisters have said it is the only way to get what I want – I need to get rid of The Chosen” The man said, as if seeking affirmation

“Yes,” the woman in the room with him responded “But you don't know who The Chosen child is,” the woman answered “We can wait some more years, can't we?”

“No!” The man shouted “I will get rid of all the children with similar traits now Get

it done, when Celina wakes up, I want it all done ” He stopped and looked back towards the door urgently

“I thought you said Celina was fast asleep?” The woman asked

Pandemonium took over Celina's existence a moment later as she ran, hurried down

a flight of steps in her pyjamas, sweating profusely and panting with a little boy in her arms Regardless of how cold it was She was sweating profusely as apprehension took over her body

“What is it mama?” The little boy watched as his mother placed him down quickly and her hand shook like she had an intense fever She tried to open the door to their winter holiday home Fear began to creep into the boy's face like Celina had affected him with a disease or something “We should go back," the little boy said

Celina ignored her son knowing he couldn't understand what was about to befall him Quickly, she closed her eyes and said a brief prayer She opened her eyes - her prayer was nothing more than muttering words of 'help God, help!' She turned the knob to the door again but the knob didn't move

“Oh God!” She became terrified and tried using her slim body to force it open Suddenly she heard her son scream She turned and looked up to see that her son had been snatched by a woman

“No, no,” Celina said with a screech like a wild animal and rushed back towards the steps to get her son At the top of the steps, she met the man who immediately prevented her from reaching her son

“Can't you see that even your prayers are not being answered?” The man scorned in the dark His face and upper body were hidden by the dark but he had on a pair of long light brown trousers “If they were, you wouldn't have come out here because I had this all planned long before now and you cannot stop it.”

“No, no,” Celina objected “You are crazy ” she hit the man with her hands but her fists had little or no impact on his broad chest “I beg you, don't do this” she cried out the words amidst uncontrollable tears

“You are lucky Celina that's why I'm not going to burn you along with Adrian.” Celina raised her head up as she heard what he was going to do to her son She was about to object when he pushed her aside, she staggered backwards and hit the wall

“Adrian is only a little boy, he knows nothing of the prophecy,” Celina pleaded for her child's life

“Celina, you'll have other children,” the man looked back, his lips wiggled like he was going to smile

“You know - I never gave the other parents this option I killed them along with their children.”

“But you can't prove Adrian is The Chosen one, can you?” Celina defended

“Adrian has the traits of The Chosen in his blood and that is enough for me The Chosen and those with traits of The Chosen must die.” His voice carried deep venom that shocked Celina, and then he stepped into the room he came out from

“Don't do this!” Celina rushed behind him and the instant she stepped into the room; her heart fluttered in desperation Adrian was floating a meter up in mid-air, still dressed in his pyjamas Below him was a big circle drawn on the floor and in the center of the circle was a pentagon with several other symbols within it A blueish light radiated from the circle

to the roof of the room; the light was only within the circle and it was the only light in the room

“Sorcery,” Celina's eyes widened in disbelief of what the man she knew very well had gotten into “She has poisoned your mind; this is not you.” Celina shouted out pointing at the other woman who was dressed in a long red cloak

Part 2

elina's heart palpitated extremely fast but she was weak from the drugs she had been given to calm her nerves and make her rest, hence she didn't have much strength Suddenly, she became apprehensive from the discussion she just overhead In the winter’s cold, sweat came over her and the sleepy eyes she had previously, immediately left her though she was still weak Sweat came over her entire body so much that one would think there was a heating unit on high temperature in the room

“Mama,” Adrian her son cried, struggling to get free from the force that caused his levitation He could only shake his body within where he hung in mid-air Celina rushed towards him but a force a few inches from the circle pushed her back

“Don't! Don't!” Celina shook her head and turned quickly as she looked at the other woman She was desperate to save her child

“Sir,” the other woman looked up

There shall be no more chosen prophecy I shall put an end to it here, now even if

it means ending my own lineage,” the man said and then looked at the woman with a determined gaze His eyes flashed liked something else was in them “Do it!”

The other woman opened her palm and a stone-like object appeared She said something in a strange language that sounded like an ancient language and suddenly fire erupted from the object burning upwards out of the woman's palm

“No.” Celina screamed deeply and rushed to stop whatever evil the woman was consulting The man caught her before she could get to the woman and forcefully threw her back Celina fell to the ground bruising her legs and hands as she slid backwards and stopped

by the door She ignored the pain, the bruise and the laceration on her skin and turned instantly as the trauma of losing Adrian overwhelmed her She watched in the greatest dismay

of her life as the man took the stone from the other woman and threw it

Celina screamed like a woman who had lost her senses She watched the stone, which was burning with an unusual dark fire as it moved in slow motion towards the circle where Adrian was trapped - the entire area within the circle that Adrian was placed turned into flames Adrian screamed with his entire strength as the dark fire burnt

Celina got up and rushed again to the circle but the force around the circle obstructed her from getting to her son She hit the force with all she had, screaming with all her strength but nothing happened She turned to the man and rushed towards him in a frenzy manner ready to tear him apart, her eyes defined in deep red from crying but the huge man pushed her back and she fell to the floor like a bag of bones She yelled with all of her might, hitting the unseen shield wailing in a crazy mood

“I want Marcus' daughter, Wanda,” the man spoke to the other woman in the long red cloak ignoring Celina's wailing “And let's not forget Zacharie's granddaughter 'Mia' too

Take care of them all.” Both their faces and expressions were still hidden away in the dark Celina who was howling didn't hear them clearly but she already knew what the man was planning - to destroy all The Chosen children

“I am on it,” the woman answered in the dark and then included, “what about Luciana's son Haakan, I mean Zacharie's other grandchild.”

“Luciana, she has been faithful.” The man paused and moaned in a low tone like there was a reason why he didn't want Luciana hurt “Include Haakan," he said gently

“Meet me in the city,” when you get your strength back?” The man turned and walked past Celina “I have some other children to get to this night.”

Celina continued to hit hard on the shield blocking her from reaching her son, she didn't even realize she was the only one left in the room She had lost touch with everything

She suddenly came back to reality, got up after a while and wobbled towards the door

of the room She fell down outside unable to watch her son in the horrific scene, she couldn't hear the boy anymore, only the noise of the burning fire She covered her ears, squeezed her body together on the floor with her knees bent towards her face and wailed bitterly in horror

She remembered Marcus while groaning Marcus' little daughter came up in her mind and quickly Celina searched frantically for her phone

“Marcus, Marcus,” she scampered realizing Marcus' daughter was another target for the man

“Celina?” Marcus sat up instantly hearing Celina cry “He he did it,” Celina said incoherently amidst intense tears “He killed Adrian…burnt him alive!” she cried out loud

“What?” Marcus spoke out making his wife, Sofia sit up as Celina's call woke them

up from sleep

“He is searching for The Chosen and any other child who shows traits of The Chosen,” Celina explained in tears that gushed out like heavy rain from her eyes “You have

to get your daughter away, get Wanda hidden away ”

“Wanda!” Marcus repeated, wondering why his two year old daughter was in danger

“Wanda is safe ” Marcus broke off as he and Sofia suddenly heard their baby cry out Sofia jumped off the bed and scurried to Wanda's room

Celina hearing a weird sound behind her suddenly jumped up and turned to face the room where Adrian had been She screamed in horror staring into the room

“Celina, Celina,” Marcus called hurrying behind Sofia but holding on to the phone against his ear Something else was in the room now that Celina was staring at She could not believe what was standing and looking at her; the creature was huge and it had furiously-red eyes, ready for a kill

Part 3

elina swallowed hard in bewilderment, knowing that the fire must have consumed Adrian and unleashed a demon never seen before from the Abyss The creature took a step, leaped and in a second crushed through the door frame, the door gave way It appeared and stood in front of Celina - She squealed in trepidation

“Celina, Celina,” Marcus stopped and shouted loudly looking at the phone in his hand

In a split second, another scream followed, but this time, it was Marcus' wife Sofia ran very fast out of the room she had gone into She was carrying their little daughter Wanda

as she ran She got to Marcus before Marcus realized what Sofia was running from

A massive, over seven foot bat-like disfigured creature stepped out of the room breaking through the wall Its wicked eyes focused on Marcus, Sofia and Wanda

“The Night Furfur!” Sofia called out the name of the creature inadvertently Before it moved, Marcus had pulled out from the wall beside him a huge machete with an image of the Vitrian symbol engrafted on it; a symbol that brings healing to humans but deadly to demons The symbol sparkled as Marcus launched at the demon

“Marcus,” Sofia cried out in fear as her husband rushed towards the creature that had appeared in their home She held their little daughter Wanda tightly Wanda had started crying due to the mayhem and noise around her

The Night Furfur opened its mouth wide revealing huge fangs as Marcus launched at

it Marcus ducked the huge wing the demon swerved at him, raised his knife up and tore the wing as the knife cut through like a pair of scissors cutting through a piece of cloth that had been pulled tight The demon went after him with the other wing but he ducked and slid towards the horse-type legs of the demon

Marcus was one of the most experienced Vitrians and knew the weakness of the Furfur demon was on the back of the demon, where the talons and fangs could not protect it The demon kicked Marcus hard with one of its legs before Marcus could get a good position behind it Marcus fell backwards and slid to a position where the other taloned-wing of the demon could reach him He rolled around on the ground instantly avoiding the talon that pressed towards him He got hold of his knife and knelt to look into the eyes of the demon, which was struggling as one of the wings that Marcus had cut through wobbled on the floor

“Call Xavier,” Marcus said pulling back quickly towards his wife but his eyes were still on the demon

“What! What should I tell him?” Sofia asked

“I want to know how many Vitrians are under attack,” he replied looking straight at the demon that was finding it difficult to move properly due to its damaged wing

“You think this was planned,” Sofia inquired “You promised me we would be safe Marcus You promised me demons didn't attack Vitrians even though Vitrians have the power to attack them.”

“This is unusual,” Marcus turned to his wife to see the gloom on her face

“Is my Wanda safe?” Sofia asked She could see in the silence that followed that her husband was not planning to answer “I don't want my daughter involved in the Vitrians' stories or their prophecies that are dead and forgotten.”

“This is not the time for that ”

“Is she safe?” Sofia shouted, her eyes were filled with tears and apprehension knowing that she was not a Vitrian and would not be able to protect her daughter as would her husband or any other Vitrian

“No,” he said closing his eyes “I am sorry, I didn't foresee this I didn't believe Celina.”

“Celina?” Sofia called in deep disgust, her eyelids narrowed indicating that Celina had been an issue in their home “We agreed you'd keep away from her, now she's calling you in the middle of the night.”

“Take it easy, Sofia.”

Marcus reacted speaking out loud while sweating profusely from the fight he had just had with the demon that was still struggling to crawl towards them “Celina just lost her son.”

“Adrian? ” Sofia went numb for a moment “Adrian is dead? I don't believe Celina She's just trying to draw you in, to get you away from me Why didn't she call Bathe

or Xavier or Alexis? Or she could have even called her female friends like Tine or Luciana She didn't, she called you?”

“Sofia ” Marcus complained when they suddenly heard a sound and turned back to the Night Furfur

“What is it doing?” Sofia enquired staring apprehensively at the deformed creature that was struggling to move and was making some rather irritating sounds

Marcus did not wait to answer his wife; he pulled her by the arm and rushed towards their room

“What is happening?” Sofia asked turning back sporadically to look at the demon that was struggling in a pool of its own ichor and screeching in an unknown language “What is the Furfur doing?”

“It's calling for assistance It knows it would not be able to finish me alone – We need

to take Wanda to a safe place.” Marcus was hasty

“What! More are coming?”

“Yes, and we need to save Wanda!” Marcus answered

Part 4

ime ceased to exist in Celina's world as she stood motionless watching the huge thing in front of her in the room She was in a total state of shock losing consciousness of what had just happened to her son and what was standing four meters away from her inside the room

Celina stopped talking to Marcus and lowered the phone that was to her ear slowly

in disbelief and then she backed up slowly until her back hit the wall behind her

The room was now totally on fire The fire was burning outside the circle and was different from the dark flame that had been invoked on Adrian The new fire now radiated from the tall and massive creature that was bending to fit into the room but Celina couldn't see it properly

The creature had deep red eyes that were staring furiously at her

The creature was humongous, it was obvious that if it stretched out fully, it would have been extremely tall It was covered all over in grey hair that had a taint of white and blue to it but Celina couldn't see it well due to the darkness and the fire that filled the room didn't help either

She couldn't understand how the creature came about but she knew it had something

to do with the dark fire the other woman had summoned on her son She knew the fire must have raised a powerful and unknown demon from the Abyss

Like something had vexed the creature, its eyes remained deep red as it narrowed them on Celina Smoke from the fire was still on its body, fading away little by little but the creature wasn't burning, although the room was engulfed in the fire Celina could see that the creature wasn't disturbed by the smoke burning and evaporating from its body

The creature suddenly roared in anger, forcefully moving its face forward and towards Celina without moving any other part of her body Celina shrieked and came back to reality

at the sound the creature made

She moved swiftly and ran straight for the stairs She ran, literally jumping down to the last step and heading for the same door she was struggling to get open earlier on To her shock the creature broke through the wall and leaped to get a hold of her by the entrance to the house

Celina screamed and tried the door handle, the handle turned and the door opened She didn't realize it but the man and the woman in the red robe left the door open when they stepped out She ran as far as she could into the woods oblivious of the fact that the black winter jacket, she had on was unzipped She had put it on while she tried to leave the house initially She drifted to the left and right as she ran with her silk knee length nighty moving in the direction of the wind She heard the creature behind her as the creature crashed through the wooden wall and door of the house It rushed after her but Celina didn't stop She only kept running farther and farther into the woods in the thick of the night

Large sounds of wood breaking and cracking followed, and Celina turned gently but did not stop running, neither could she feel the cold of the winter’s night, though she was

sweating profusely due to her running She looked back and saw as trees parted on every single push the creature made by just waving its right or left hand, like the trees were little sticks Suddenly she noticed the creature leaped from the trees that parted Instantly, she stopped running and like in slow motion watched as the creature jumped some meters above her It landed about five meters in front of her and didn't skid or slip, it landed and a gigantic echo resonated in the mountains where they were

he cold did not matter to Celina; neither could she recollect what had just happened because a new threat stood between her and life There was no doubt the creature meant to harm her but she couldn't figure out why the creature wanted her dead or why it ran after her with intense fury She knew screaming would not help because she was at the mountain top and the next inhabited house was a distance away, so if she screamed her voice would be lost in the winds

Celina stepped backwards quickly, sweating and panting heavily from the run through the woods She took three steps backwards, without turning back – she walked back very slowly Her eyes and all her senses were fixed on the creature She could see the creature was very precise If she had continued to run without looking back, when the creature leaped, she would have ended up directly in front of it and it would have easily picked her up with its very huge hands

She studied the creature very well; she did not understand what it was neither had she seen anything or any demon like it before

Unwittingly, Celina dipped her hand into her jacket remembering she had picked up her Praying Méndez when she was planning to rush out with her son - Adrian

The Praying Méndez glowed but not as bright as one would expect it to for a committed Vitrian, who has dedicated her time to praying When Vitrians prayed they have supernatural powers, which made their Praying Méndez glow The weak glow was an indication that Celina had not been spending adequate time on her prayers She knew the Vitrian rules; weak prayers meant an inadequately charged Praying Méndez, which means she becomes an easy prey for demons She had been mentally and physically disturbed for over a year because she had been having visions of children with the gift of The Chosen being killed and it had bothered her tremendously

“I command you to go back to your home; to the Abyss,” Celina demanded as she brought out the Praying Méndez Any creature commanded with a glowing Praying Méndez adheres to the command and Celina knows that was her advantage over the creature

The creature groaned the instant it saw the glowing Praying Méndez Although it wasn't very bright, the creature stepped back covering its eyes with its huge hands It could not look into the supernatural light that the Praying Méndez emitted through its heavenly glow

Celina could see that the glow affected the creature but she expected more Demons were supposed to dissolve and go back to the Abyss once they were commanded to go back

to the Abyss with a Praying Méndez at hand But this creature did not disappear Seeing that the heavenly glow in the Méndez affected the creature, Celina took two steps closer to it and demanded its return to the Abyss with more confidence and a more commanding tone

“Go I say, back to the Abyss That is where you are meant to be.” She raised the Méndez up, slightly above her head so it was in the sight of the creature

Shock gripped her and goose bumps erupted on her entire skin when the creature roared out loud in anger She could hear the fury in its roar Though the creature's face was buried in its arms, which were crossed across its face, Celina had never seen, heard or experienced any demon stand against the command made via a Praying Méndez She took a look at the Praying Méndez in her hand and wondered what was wrong She thought maybe the no effect on the creature was because her prayers had been sporadic and weak lately, hence her Praying Méndez had a weak glow But she knew that as long as there was light in the Méndez it had to work Any demon facing it should disintegrate

The creature groaned and forcefully moved its leg back one step Celina noticed the slight movement backward, though it wasn't what she was expecting it gave her courage She held the Praying Méndez up high

“I command and bind you to this boundary, not to cross it,” she said and then looked

at the Méndez She knew the glow in it would not last all day because she had not been praying adequately; nonetheless she was ready to wait it out, until the Méndez was out of light

Part 6

arcus paused for a moment and studied his wife briefly He could see she was engulfed in fear She was not a Vitrian but had been informed about the Vitrian ways and given the gift to see demons because she was married to a Vitrian She waited for her husband

to answer her question if more demons were coming Not that she could do anything if more demons were coming, nonetheless, she pressed her husband for an answer

"Yes Sofia, more demons are coming that is the call for assistance or help from one Night Furfur to another." Marcus replied and then began to rummage in extremely high haste, for something in his drawer

“What are we going to do?” Sofia's expression was designed by fear

“We have to leave here Every trace to find us is linked to this house, we have to be out of here right now.” Marcus brought out a unique object from his drawer An object about his arm’s length; shaped like a thin cone and made of wood and silver

“Your Praying Méndez,” Sofia called the name of the object that Marcus had picked

up He picked up some other objects that were made of silver and had the Vitrian symbol on them The symbol was the same on the knife he just used to fight the Night Furfur The symbol was harmless to humans but would easily hurt any demon It was a supernaturally

symbol that glowed whenever a demon was present near a Vitrian The symbol had a design with a thin cone in the middle that had two snakes wrapped around it and wings at the top

He concentrated on the objects, shrinking them in size as he concentrated

“To the car! More demons would be here in a few seconds.” Marcus pulled his wife towards the door He knew she was still fairly new to the Vitrian’s way of life, so he didn't complain whenever she was slow to react or didn't know what to do

At the entrance, Marcus pulled Sofia's and Wanda's jackets and threw them on Wanda and his wife, while his wife only looked at him worriedly and at the same time annoyed that everything, he promised would not happen to them had suddenly unfolded in the middle of the night Marcus took hold of his own jacket, placed the shrunk objects in his hand into the elastic hooks inside the jacket He was about to put the jacket on when a loud sound of a heavy object landing on their roof and startled them Sofia shrieked in fear and pulled her daughter who was also fear-stricken very close to her body

Marcus wasted no time, he pushed the door open and pulled his wife and daughter out behind him Before Sofia could inquire about what was on the roof, a demon jumped from the rooftop and landed in front of them outside the house

Marcus instantly brought out his Praying Méndez out, the object glowed fully bright instantly in front of the demon showing he was a praying Vitrian and well equipped to fight the demon A supernatural heavenly-like light emanated from the Praying Méndez, blinding the demon The demon cried and crumbled backwards

“I bind you,” Marcus began to command “I bind you and order you back to the Abyss, your home.” The demon grunted at the unquestionable order it had been given Abruptly, it began to fight with an unseen power that seemed to hold its wings and body tighter and tighter Within a few seconds, the Night Furfur disappeared

Marcus wore his jacket and pulled his wife hurriedly towards the car He drove off fast as snowflakes fell from the sky Sofia on the other hand held on tight to their daughter, her heart throbbing hard in fear

She had heard about how Vitrians battled with demons but she had never witnessed any of the battles and had been told demons didn't come attacking Vitrians because demons are aware that Vitrians can destroy them

“I am dropping you off at the church!”

“Dropping me off and where would you be going?” Sofia complained

“I will be luring the demons away.”

Sofia looked at her husband who kept his eyes straight on the road as he drove fast She did not believe what he was saying and she suspected that he would be going to Celina's

“What if a demon attacked us, or attacked your daughter? What should I do? I am not skilled with the knowledge of fighting them as you are.”

“They are not going to come looking for you there Sofia you know this is not an ordinary place it is a place of protection The demons would not even see you once you step into the compound.”

“You are leaving us because you want to go and help Celina,” Sofia let her thoughts out as she stared in deep annoyance at her husband “I have been a fool believing you truly had nothing to do with Celina, she has poisoned you all ”

Part 7

arcus turned to his wife gently and his face expressed both concern and seriousness He loved his wife dearly and understood that his wife could not appreciate what he was doing However, as a Vitrian elder, it was his duty to go help those in need and Sofia who was not born a Vitrian would not understand it or appreciate it right now, most especially when Celina is involved

“Sofia,” Marcus tried to explain, gently “You know I have to help anyone in need of help I'll get you to safety and go help others If you were in Celina's shoes and I was not home, would you have been happy if Xavier or Alexis or Bathe didn't show up to help Tell

me honestly, how would you feel?”

“Then let Alexis help her! After all he is her husband.” Sofia complained bitterly

“You know Alexis has been away for the last few weeks in London.”

“Why can't you see everything happening is linked to Celina,” the young woman continued and sighed “Celina is the one behind everything; Zacharie's problems as medical and spiritual head of the Vitrians, Alexis’ problems defending his decisions as a leader, Bathe and Luciana's marriage in trouble ”

“Sofia, not now ” her husband shouted
