Lower arm ball joint removal tool

Used for remove the lower arm ball joint

Components

1 Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and then wait for at least 30 seconds

2 Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels can face straight ahead

3 Remove the airbag module

Insert the end of the flat tool along the guide hole (Φ5mm allen wrench recommend.)

After inserting the tool, lightly press it Can be easily remove the air bag module

Release the bottom of hole and then release the left or right holes

4 Disconnect the air bag connector (A) and horn connector (B)

5 Loosen the steering wheel lock bolt (A) and then separate the steering wheel form the steering column

Tightening torque :

44.1 ~ 49.0 N.m (4.5 ~ 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 36.2 lb-ft)

Do not reuse the steering lock bolt

6 Installation is the reverse of the removal

Disassembly

1 Loosen the screw and then remove the lower cover

2 Disconnect the connector and then remove the wiring

3 Loosen the screw and then remove the remote control switch assembly

4 Loosen the screw and then remove the remote control switch

5 Reassembly is the reverse of the disassembly

Description

Heated pads to grip the steering grip makes the fever

2 Heated steering control : BCM(body control module) integrated management

Operation

The push-return switch transmits signals to the steering wheel heating module

Pressing the switch on once repeatedly cycles the unit between the ON and OFF modes

If the power is cut off during operation, the switch is reset to off status

Therefore steering wheel heating module is initialized to off status

Inpection

1 Measure a resistance of NTC and Heated pad

– NTC resistance(Black / Yellow, Black) - 10.0 kΩ ± 10% (25°C)

– Heated pad resistance (Yellow, Black) - 1.6 ~ 2.0 Ω ± 10%

2 Measure a temperature

– The temperature of wheel surface grip must rise from -20°C to 20°C within 6 minute

– The temperature of wheel surface grip must keep 38°C ± 4°C after 25 minute

– At that time switch on, all measure point (1~8)

3 Heated steering wheel switch

– Check the continuity between the switch terminals as the Heated steering wheel switch is engaged

Steering System

Description

EPS (Electric power steering, Column assist type) system uses an electric motor to assist the steering effort andit operate without

consumption of engine output

EPS control module controls the motor operation according to information received from the each sensor and CAN (Controller Area Network),resulting in a more precise and timely control of steering assist than conventional engine-driven hydraulic systems Components (Steering Angle Sensor, Torque Sensor, Fail-safe relay, etc.) of the EPS system are located inside the steering column EPS unit assembly, steering column, and EPS unit assembly must not be disassembled for inspection They must be replaced if necessary

Note With Regard to diagnosis

damage can occur.The steering wheel could pull to one side by using the dropped parts.- Precise parts of motor/ECU are sensitive to vibration and impact.- Overload can cause unexpected damage

- Do not use the impacted EPS.- Do not overload each parts

welding point- Broken PCB- Damaged precise parts

can cause malfunction of the torque sensor

- Do not impact the connecting parts (When inserting and torquing)- Use the specified tool to remove the steering wheel (Do not hammer on it)- Do not use the impacted EPS

(Uneven between LH and RH)

Do not use the impacted EPS

power operation- Malfunction of EPS

Disconnection between harness connecting portion and harness

Do not overload the harness

- Keep the normal temperature and proper moisture, while storaging- Avoid drowning

1 Do not impact the electronic parts, if they are dropped or impacted, replace them with new ones

2 Avoid heat and moisture to the electronic parts

3 Do not contact the connect terminal to avoid deformation and static electricity

4 Do not impact the motor and torque sensor parts, if they are dropped or impacted, replace them with new ones

5 The connector should be disconnected or connected with IG OFF

The following symptoms may occur during normal vehicle operation and if there is no EPS warning light illumination, it is not malfunction

of EPS system

• After turning the ignition switch on, the steering wheel becomes heavier while it performs EPS system diagnostics, for about 2

seconds, then it becomes normal steering condition

• After turning the ignition switch on or off, EPS relay noise may occur but it is normal

• When it is steered, while the vehicle is stopped or in low driving speed, motor noise may occur but it is normal operating one

ASP (Absolute Steering Position) calibration or EPS type recognition

• Check if the battery is fully charged before ASP calibration or EPS type recognition

• Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or scan tool during ASP calibration or EPS type recognition

• When the ASP calibration or EPS type recognition is completed, turn the ignition switch off and wait for several seconds, then start the engine to confirm normal operation of the vehicle

ASP Calibration

1 Connect self-diagnosis connector(16pins) located in the lower of driver side crash pad to self-diagnosis device

2 Turn the self-diagnosis device after key is ON

3 After Selecting the "vehicle model" and "system", select the "ASP Calibration" on GDS vehicle selection screen

4 Follow the process as below.

EPS Type Recognition

1 Connect self-diagnosis connector(16pins) located in the lower of driver side crash pad to self-diagnosis device

2 Turn the self-diagnosis device after key is ON

3 After Selecting the "vehicle model" and "system", select the "EPS Type Recognition" on GDS vehicle selection screen

4 Follow the process as below

Do not reuse the steering lock bolt

6 Remove the steering column upper shroud (A)

7 Remove the steering column lower shroud (A).

8 Disconnect the connector

9 Remove the clock spring

Press the Auto Lock at 6 O'' Clock and turn clockwise until the end

Press the Auto Lock at 6 O'' Clock and turn counter-clockwise 3 rotations

If white cable is visible through the 10 O'' Clock Neutral Check Window, then the spring is set to neutral

10 Remove the multifunction switch connector (A)

11 Remove the multifunction switch (A).

12 Remove the crash pad lower panel

(Refer to Body - "Crash Pad Lower Panel")

13 Disconnect the connector below illustrations

14 Remove the wiring fixed clip at the steering column.

15 Loosen the bolt (A) and then disconnect the universal joint assembly from the pinion of the steering gear box

16 Remove the steering column by loosening the mounting bolt (B) and nut (A).

Tightening torque

Nut:25.0 ~ 29.4 N.m (2.5 ~ 3.0 kgf.m, 14.5 ~ 21.7lb-ft)

Bolt:44.1 ~ 49.0 N.m (4.5 ~ 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 36.2lb-ft)

17 Installation is the reverse of the removal

18 Conduct the "ASP Calibration" and "EPS Type Recognition" by GDS

(Refer to Electric Power Steering - "ASP calibration or EPS type recognition" )

Disassembly

Universal joint assembly

1 Loosen the bolt (A) and then disconnect the universal joint assembly from the steering column assembly

Tightening torque :

49.1 ~ 58.8 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 42.4 lb-ft)

• Do not reuse the bolt

2 Reassembly is the reverse of the disassembly

Key lock assembly

1 Make a groove on the head of special bolts (A) by a punch

2 Loosen the special bolt using a screw driver and then remove the key lock assembly from the steering column assembly

3 Reassembly is the reverse of the disassembly

Inspection

1 Check the steering column for damage and deformation

2 Check the joint bearing for damage and wear

3 Check the tilt bracket for damage and cracks

4 Check the key lock assembly for proper operation and replace it if necessary

• Do not reuse the bolt.

2 Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub

Tightening torque :

88.2 ~ 107.8 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.0 ~ 79.5 lb-ft)

Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).

3 Loosen the bolt & nut after removing the pin (A)

Tightening torque :

98.1 ~ 117.7 N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.6 lb-ft)

Do not use a bar to release the lower arm from the knuckle

4 Remove the lower arm from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-4R100)

(1) Install the support bolt (A) from bolt hole

(2) Install the support body (B) from front axle

5 Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.

(1) Remove the split pin (A)

(2) Loosen the nut and then remove the ball joint (B)

8 Remove the engine room cover

10 Disconnect the muffler rubber hanger (A)

11 Loosen the bolts & nuts and then remove the sub frame

Tightening torque

Bolts :

Set up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the shock absorber in no-load condition.

12 Loosen the bolt and then remove the protector (A)

14 Installation is the reverse of removal.

15 Check the front alignment

(Refer to Suspension System - "Front Alignment")

Replacement

Do not disassembly the steering gear box

If disassembly the steering gear box, the quality(Noise / cleanliness / functions) is not guaranteed

Tie rod end

1 Remove the tie rod end after loosening the nut

Tightening torque :

49.0 ~ 53.9 N.m 5.0 ~ 5.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 39.8 lb-ft)

Before removing the tie rod end, note by measuring the length of the thread or marked with paint

2 Replace with new parts

3 Check the alignment

(Refer to Tires/Wheels - "Alignment")

Dust cap

1 Remove the dust cap cover.

2 Pull the upwards and remove the dust cap

3 Installation is the reverse of removal
