The process o f performing the thesis is dilĩicult and stresstul process.
Hovvever, aíter I complete the thesis, I have gained valuable knovvledge which is a large revvard for my efforts. 1 have recognized that the key to a valid thesis is the way o f beginning with suitable study topic choice and obvious purposes. In addition, the valid thesis applies relevant theories and proves high degree o f critical analysis. In other \vords, the valid thesis must demonstrate the capability to synthesize relevant literatures and the capability to examine the literatures against practical illustrations.
After conducting the thesis, ! recognize that the responsibility for choice o f the study topic, plan o f a study proposal, accomplishment o f the actual thesis and conduction o f proactive contact vvith supervisor lies with stuđents, and their supervisors play a vital role as guides who vvill give feedback to their students. Therefore, I have enhanced the sense o f initiative in all activities in my jo b after períorming the thesis.
After I conduct this thesis, I have gained lots o f academic knowledge in organizational development and change, especially management changes o f Viettracht in Vietnam. Nowadays, the Vietnamese maritime plays a vital role in the economy development o f Vietnam and thus conducting the thesis related to maritime inđustry is necessary. When conducting the thesis, my supervisor has enthusiastic guidance during the process o f writing thesis. My supervisor advises me to search and read many literatures such as books, journals and organizational reports related to the study purposes o f the thesis.
This is the extremely useful guidance for me because iníòrmation gathered from the literatures has helped me complete the thesis in accordance with the regulations o f the University. Due to the enthusiastic guidance o f my supervisor, I have chosen the relevant theories o f organizational development and change which adheres to the study purposes. Thereíbre, the thesis becomes more coherent with deep analysis and 1 truly admire and express my
great gratitude to my supervisor. A íter conducting the thesis, I have inuch academic knovvledge o f analysis o f external and internal environment o f a company and havc deep understanding o f the ways to propose a plan for future changes in the extemal and internal environment o f the company.
Moreover, 1 have also mastered the steps o f conducting the academic thesis.
The process ot'thesis includes choice o f study topic o f the thesis, íormulation o f stưdy purposes and objectives, a plan o f research proposal, consider relevant theories from various sources o f literatures to select theories suitable to study purposes, design o f research methods used to collect and analyze study data, presenting research íìnđings and conclusions.
My English ability and my study skills such as citation skills and skills o f tìnding out electronic literatures like electronic journals, electronic books and other electronic articles have been enhanced after I conduct the thesis. When attending the MPPM course, discussions with overseas tutors and my own efforts, my English ability signiíicantly enhances, especially skills o f writing English. Multi-faceted assessments are very vital requirements for the thesis and thus, 1 have read lots o f English and Vietnamese secondary data to enhance multi-faceted arguments. Moreover, reading many sources o f secondary data, I have understood how critically analyze and argue a certain issue. In terms o f citation skills o f literatures that I have made references, 1 have enhanced the skills aíter conducting the thesis. One o f the reasons that result in plagiarism is that researchers do not understand how to cite literatures which they have made references. In training and education program in Vietnam, citation o f secondary data such as joum als, books, and other articles is not considered as important issue and thus plagiarism has become popular habit in Vietnamese academic researches. Due to jointing the MPPM course and conducting the thesis, I have had deep understanding o f citation regulations o f academic thesis.
During the process o f pertorming the thesis, I tầced some diffìculties. Firstly, I feel confused when choosing a study topic and determining study objectives.
My initial study topic was “Restructuring to improve business pertormance in Vietfracht” . However, due to the guidance o f my supervisor and deeply learning about relevant theories, I changed the study topic into “Building a plan for managing changes in Vietfracht” . Moreover, building a plan for managing changes in Vietíracht is regarded as the urgent and vital issue o f Vietíracht because sea transport fleet o f Vietfracht has suffered prolonged losses that cause bad intluences on works and lives o f com pany’s staff and beneíìts o f com pany’s shareholders. A lthough facing difficulties in choosing the study topic, tìnally I feel that I am truly lucky to conduct the meaningful thesis beeause 1 choose the study topic vvhich is a question o f great interest o f many employees and leaders o f Vietíracht.
My importaní personal skills such as time management skills, organizational skills, communication skills, and listening skills have been increased aíter I conduct the thesis. I have \vorking experience o f 24 years in Vietữacht, especially vvorking experience o f 05 years as Vietfracht’s CEO and thus I must alvvays to solve a heavy work-load each day vvith high pressure business situations. For me, time management for my dai ly vvorks and completion o f the thesis is a difficult issue. However, I set up a schedule for accomplishment o f each chapter o f the thesis. 1 tried my best to balance time between my works and my completion o f the thesis with at least spending five hours in reading and vvriting the thesis. M oreover, I also planned my own appropriate schedule which any unpredictable matters do not iníluence on the accomplishment o f the thesis. The thesis cannot be completed successfully vvithout guidance o f my supervisor. I always ask my supervisor about issues related to the thesis that I do not deeply understand. Thereíbre, I have always contacted with my supervisor to have useful comments about the thesis and I have always said and vvritten vvhat 1 \vant and have listened to my
supervisor’s advices to save time o f my supervisor, have effective results o f the contact and improve the thesis. In addition, I must collect primary data through intervievvs o f employees and managers o f Vietữacht and thus I have conducted effective communication by having clear communication vvith the interviewees and listening to their true ideas to save their time and collect valid information.
The MPPM course in general and the thesis in particular has contributed signiíìcant to the development o f my career. I am the CEO o f Vietíracht and thus the plan for management changes in Vietỉracht is usetul for my career.
Through the thesis, I enhance insight about business activities, thoughts o f other leaders and employees o f the company and then enhance growth o f business activities o f my company and meet demands and expectations o f all employees o f my company. Moreover, with better communication skills, organizational skills, communication skills and listening skills will help me complete my vvorks better and \velcome suggestions o f my subordinate employees and my superiors and then enhance business pertbrmance o f my company.
After completing this thesis, 1 was transfered to a nevv position at an agency under Communist Party o f Vietnam, with main lunction is the advisory o f Party Central Committee, in which directly and permanently is with Political Bureau, Secretariat in eharge o f economy - society’s policy and guideline. I was assigned a duty o f recognizing the situations, inspecting, supervising the pertbrmance o f Communist Party o f V ietnam’s policies about innovating and restructuring the economy , arranging, restructuring the economic groups and state’s fínns, commercial banks system and íìnance organizations.
Personally, I realize that continuing to study and research is the regular and obligatory requirement to every executives. In the upcoming time, I will try to use the methods about Vietfracht that i have researched and stated in this thesis to:
Rxtend the scope o f researching with a group o f V ietnam ’s shipping companies. r;rom that, build a plan o f restructuring the V ietnam ’s shipping companies to get over the global economy crisis, especially in this situation vvhen V ietnam ’s economy is still unstable and the com panies’s opportunities to approach the sources are limited.
- Research more about the leader’s role in VietnanVs shipping com panies’
restructuring process. Focus more on analyzing of: (1) orientating the changes hy building long-tenn plans and strategies; (2) controlling all effects and manage the risks in the vvhole restructuring process.
The afterwards studying and researching process wi 11 surely need lot more help and instruction from Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Uppsala University - Sw eden’s teachers. ỉ hope to receive help, instructions and encouragement from all the teachers and the university.
