4.3 Boys, girls and infants 4.3.1 General
For boys, girls and infants, height is used as the primary dimension and not the individual age (see Annex A, Figure A.2). The reason is that different growth patterns exist from country to country, which leads to a great variety of heights by age.
In addition to height, the standard sizing system includes chest/bust, waist, neck and arm length related to height.
This allows each country/company freely to combine these measurements according to their individual requirements. Correlated to the primary measurement height, a range of alternatives are listed which are possible to combine. The alternatives are differentiated by coding with letters. The alternatives are named from c to max. i.
The alternatives could for instance be expanded to an alternative a for smaller measures and from f to P (except I/i and O/o) for larger measurements if required.
EXAMPLE If a country/company selects 92 cm, the range on the pictogram would be 89 cm to 95 cm.
4.3.2 Intervals
Intervals listed in the tables define the differences between two adjoining body measurements.
As children may not have the exact heights detailed in Tables 28 to 38, a height range of ± 1/2 interval is recommended for use on the pictogram in accordance with EN 13402-1, which is defined in the row “Range”.
4.3.3 Range
Range is calculated by using one half plus or half minus the interval from the primary or secondary dimension measurement. If the interval is 1,5 cm or less no range will be shown in the pictogram. All ranges on the pictogram will be rounded down to whole numbers. In case of weights, the range is shown in whole numbers.
EXAMPLE For a height of 92 cm the range is 89 cm to 95 cm (see Table 27).
