By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to know what activities the Y & Y joins in II/ Language contents:

1/ Vocabulary: blind, elderly, handicapped, care for, take part in, enroll

2/ Structures: Present simple with future meaning, gerunds, modal: may, can, could.

III/ Technique: Brainstorming, question and answer, pair work, group work, T or F.

IV/ Teaching aids: Pictures, text book, real objects, stereo.

V/ Procedures of teaching:

STEPS ACTIVITIES

I. Warm up - T shows some pictures(after school activities) – Ss work in groups ( What are they doing ?)

- Some Ss describe the pictures before class.

- T asks Ss some of other activities ( useful activities ) the young pioneers usually do after school.

II. Presentation - T shows a picture( a young pioneer helps a disable person cross the road) & introduces the dialogue “ Nga wants to join in

summer activities of the young pioneers club”.

- T asks Ss to guess “ When was she born? Where does she live ? What are her hobbies?”

- Ss listen to the tape and repeat.

- T corrects what they guess.

- Pair work – Ss complete Nga’s details.

- Some pairs perform before the class.

- T helps Ss recognize the future meaning of the present progressive tense.

- T asks Ss to pick out the Gerunds in the dialogue ( drawing, acting, helping, cleaning...)

- Some pairs perform the dialogue before class & T corrects the pronunciation.

III. Consolidation - Ss describe what activities the young pioneers often participate in.

- Gerunds

VI/ Homework:

- Students find photos ( what useful activities the young pioneers often do such as plant trees, help people, save animals.)

- Prepare lesson 2 (find structures which students use when they need a help or want to help other ones)

UNIT 6 – THE YOUNG PIONEERS CLUB Lesson 2 – Speak & Listen

I/ Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, Ps will be able to ask and offer favor or assistance and respond to these. Ss will be able to understand the main ideas and complete the blanks with the missing words of the song

II/ Language contents:

1/ Vocabulary: favor, respond, unite, peace, right, north, south.

2/ Structures: Using modal verbs. present simple tense.

III/ Techniques: Brainstorming, brainstorming, pair work, Q & A.

IV/ Teaching aids: Text books, things around. cassette, tapes.

V/ Procedures of teaching:

Steps Activities

I. Warm up Questions:

- Have you ever go shopping?

- What do you say to the seller when you just come in the shop?

And what does she/ he tell you?

II. Pre-speaking Speak :

In daily life, we always have to ask for and respond to favors;

offer assistance and respond to assistance. What structure do you know to express these ideas?

1.Look at the phrases in the boxes. Then practice the dialogues with a partner.

Asking for favors:

-Can / Could you help me, please?

- Could you do me a favor?

- I need a favor.

- Can / Could you....?

=>Bạn có thể giúp tôi được không.

Responding to favors Nhận lời:

-Certainly/ Of course/ Sure -No problem

-What can I do for you?

How can I help you?

Từ chối:

I’m sorry. I’m really busy.

Offering assistance May I help you?

Do you need any help?

Let me help you.

Responding to assistance Nhận lời:

Yes. Thank you.

Yes. That’s very kind of you.

Từ chối

No. Thank you.

No. Thank you. I’m fine.

Để trang trọng hơn ta dùng :

I wonder whether you could help me.

Do you think you could help me?

Can/ Could you help me?

III. While- speaking - T has Ss make similar dialogue base on the information in the table(p.56)

- Ss work in pairs.

- T calls some pairs to practice in front of the class.

*Thay vào :

T: Can you help me, please?

M: Certainly. What can I do for you?

T: Can you tell me the way to the nearest police station?

M: Sure. You go along this road and then turn right. Go for about 300 meters. It’s on your left.

T: Thank you very much. That’s very kind of you.

M: Never mind. You are welcome.

III. Post - speaking Play role

- T gives some questions :

“ Have you ever heard the song “ The words of us”

What does its content talk about ?”

- Ss listen and answers.

- T gives some new words .

- Ss listen and fill in blanks.

Fill in the missing words.

Let’s sing for peace.

Let’s shout out loud, Let’s make a stand,

VI/ Homework:

- Learn by heart new words - pre-practice: part Speak.

- Do exercise 1,2 (P. 38,39,40) in WB - Prepare: Unit: 5 Read.

I/ Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to know something about the Y & Y organizations in other countries and improve reading skills.

II/ Language contents:

1/ Vocabulary: citizenship, coeducational, voluntary, fitness, although.

2/ Structures:Relative Pronoun Which.

III/ Technique: Skimming, guessing words, group work, discussion IV/ Teaching aids: Text books,

V/ Procedures of teaching:

STEPS ACTIVITIES

I. Warm up T asks :

- Do you join the young pioneers clubs ? SS answer

- Are you a member of the young pioneers club ? T asks :

- Do you like to join the young pioneers club ? Why?

II. Pre - reading T shows the picture and gives questions.

- Do you know any organizations similar to the Y & Y in other countries?

- What social activities do the Y & Y in VietNam do ?

- Do you know anything about the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in the USA ?

- What the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides do ? - What do you want to know about them ? III. While – reading - Check answers

- T explains vocabulary and structure Citizenship

- Ss read silently and then answer questions

- What do the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides do ? - Where did scouting start ? in the USA ?

Ss do exercise 1 + 2 IV. Post – reading - Group work:

Representatives of each group perform before the class.
