UNIT 7_ TELEVISION Lesson 1: Getting started: What’s on today?/ P6- 7 (Time:1

- Vocabulary: Use the words related to TV programmes and people.

- Grammar: Use Wh-question words to make questions.

2 Competencies:

a General competencies: To form and improve such competencies as: individual

work, co-operation, self- study, using language to do exercises, problem- solving, presentation and assessment

b Specific competencies:

- To improve such competencies related to language learning as listening and

reading for specific information then practice listening and speaking with the words related to TV programmes and people

- To use listening and reading skills corresponding to each part of the lesson to pronounce, know the meaning of key words, and understand the main grammatical points, then do the tasks that follow

3 Qualities: Ss have a positive attitude towards what they have learnt.

II PREPARATIONS

1 Teacher’s: Teaching plan, Textbook, workbook, projector.

Step 1: Task delivering

T encourages Ss to volunteer to guess the letters,

of the English alphabet, which appear in the key

word Then Ss basing on the correct words

predicted guess the key word

If they guess incorrectly, T draws a line to complete

the Hanging man picture

Ask Ss to look at the title of the conversation and

the picture Ask Ss some questions like: What do

you think they are talking about? Do you like

watching TV? Why/ Why not?What channel/

programme do you like best? How many hours a

day do you watch TV?

Encourage Ss to give their answers but do not

confirm whether their answers are right or wrong

Step 2: Task performance

Play the recording twice for Ss to listen and read

along Have Ss underline the words that related to

the topic of the unit while they are listening and

reading Invite some Ss to read the dialogue aloud

Ask Ss what exactly Phong and Hung are talking

about Confirm the correct answer ( They are

talking about their favourite TV programmes)

Step 3: Report and discussion

Have Ss say the words in the text that they think

are related to the topic Television Quickly write the

words on the board Comment on Ss’ answers

By the end of the lesson, Ss are expected to achieve the following objectives:

- Vocabulary: Use the words related to TV programmes and people.

- Grammar: Use Wh-question words to make questions; Use conjunctions to

connect clauses in compound sentences

2 Competencies:

work, co-operation, self- study, using language to do exercises, problem- solving, presentation and assessment

b Specific competencies: To use listening and reading skills corresponding to

1.  Aims: To help Ss know how to use conjunctions to connect clauses in compound sentences

2. Contents: Conjunctions in compound sentences

3. Products: Ss’ knowledge gain of Conjunctions in compound sentences

board and underline the conjunctions in the
