Cấu trúc sau đây cũng đôi khi được dùng nhưng không thông dụng bằng mẫu trên:

Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn để diễn tả 1 hành động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ thì có hành động khác xen vào
S1 + Past continuous + when + S2 + Simple past
I was watching TV when she came home
When she came home, I was watching television
Hành động diễn ra tại thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ
Hành động xảy ra trong 1 khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ
