A container is a basic tool consisting of any device creating a partially or fully enclosed space that can be used to contain, store, and transport objects or materials. In commerce, it includes any receptacle or enclosure for holding a product used in packaging and shipping. Things kept inside of a container are protected by being inside of its structure. The term is most frequently applied to devices made from materials that are durable and at least partly rigid.

4 Convention on Temporary Admission
III- STRUCTURE OF CONTAINER
Containers have many types, each of which has one or several different structural featuresthough still compliant to ensure consistency and convenience for use in multimodal transport
Trang 3Basically, the General Purpose Container is a rectangular 6-sided box mounted on a steel frame.
It can be divided into the following main components:
1) Frame: made of rectangular steel, and is the main bearing component of the container.
2) Bottom and floor
Bottom of the container consists of bottom cross members connecting the two bars of the bottombar These additional beams support the frame structure, and the direct bearing of the containerfloor down These components are also made of steel, to ensure bearing strength

Trang 4Floors are usually paved with stick or
plywood wood, treated with chemicals, glued with
adhesive or screws
For the convenience of loading and unloading, the bottom of the container can bedesigned with a forklift pocket for forklifts, or a gooseneck tunnel for gooseneck loadingvehicles
3) Roof panel
It is flat or curved metal plate that covers the top of the container Roofing materials can besteel, aluminum, or plywood with glass fiber-reinforced plastic coating
Trang 54) Side wall
Similar to a roof, a vertical wall is a metal plate (steel, aluminum, or laminated glass fiberreinforced plastic), often corrugated to increase the strength of the wall
5) Front end wall
The front is similar to the vertical wall The front of the container is a doorless face, facing theback of the door
4
Trang 66) Rear end wall and door
The back consists of 2 flat or wavy door leaves The door is attached to the container framethrough the hinge mechanism Along the door edge there is a door gasket to prevent water fromentering the container Typically, each door has two door locking bars on which two doorhandles are attached to the lead clamp
Trang 77) Corner Fittings
The corner casting is made from steel, welded to the upper and lower corners of the container, which is the twistlock of the lifting equipment (crane, forklift truck) or lashing hooks duringlifting, stacking, or tethering of containers The size and shape of the mounting angle arespecified in ISO 1161 The position of the mounting angles on the container is given in ISO 668:1995

Trang 8IV- CLASSIFICATION AND FEATURES OF CONTAINER
Base on SIZE of container
Containers are commonly divided into three types:
In addition, the various types of standard container also differ in dimensions and weight, resulting in a wide range of standard containers
Standard containers are mainly used as 20' and 40' containers Containers with smallerdimensions are very seldom used Indeed, the trend is towards even longer dimensions, e.g 45'

Trang 27V- TYPES OF CONTAINER’S CODE:
1 Identification System
It is the main marking on the door It is an alpha numeric sequence made up of 4 Alphabets and
7 Numbers The container number identification system has been created by the InternationalStandards Organisation under their code IS06346:1995(E)
As per this code, the container identification system consists of
- Owner code – (in above example CBC) Consisting of three capital letters that identifies theowner of the container There is an international agency (Bureau International desContainers et du Transport Intermodal) that issues owner codes on behalf of ISO so that nosingle code is assigned to more than one owner In the above case the container belongs tothe CONTAINER BROKERAGE COMPANY The great majority of shipping andcontainer leasing companies advertise their logo on the container, which are often paintedwith distinct colors, so the owner is commonly easy to identify
The owner code is UNIQUE to the owner of the container and the registration of this coderests with Bureau International des Containers et du Transport Intermodal (BIC) This is toavoid any duplication of code by any shipping line or container operator
If you don’t know who a particular container belongs to, you can always do a BIC CodeSearch to identify the owner of the container
But BEWARE, the owner of the container need not necessarily be operating the container
as they could have leased the container to another operator or shipping line
- Product group code – 1 letter (in above example, U denoting a freight container Theequipment category identifier consists of one of the following capital letters of the Latinalphabet:
+ U for all freight containers
+ J for detachable freight container-related equipment
+ Z for trailers and chassis
+ Under the ISO code, then, only U, J, and Z are in use The reefer container isidentified by means of the size type code
- Check Digit - This single digit is used to cross-verify if the identification sequence is
accurate By convention it is boxed to make sure it is separated and is standing out from theregistration number Since terminal gates handle a large amount of containers, there isalways a risk that the identification sequence was not correctly inputted The standard
