Unit 2 : Clothing Lesson 1: Getting started + Listen and read

A.The aims of the lesson

1 Knowledge

+ The aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to know something about

Ao dai, the traditional dress of Vietnamese women

+ Vocabulary: Words about clothing: types/ styles, colors, fashions, material, designs , poet, a long sick tunic, slit, inspiration, ethnic minorities, pattern

+ Grammar: To talk about an action or a state which began in the past and

continues to the present The passive (review ): be + past participle

Write activities, interesting places which ss know or are on holiday

2 Skills : Listening, writing skills and grammar

3 Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice reading

for details, love the traditional dress of Vietnamese women

C Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work

III.New lesson

Step1.Pre – reading : (10’)

Introduce “ Today we will learn about the traditional

costumes of some countries First , you look at the

dresses that some people are wearing Decide where

each person comes from :

- Call on some Ss to demonstrate their ideas in front of

class

- Correct and give the right answers :

+ She comes from Japan She is wearing a Kimono

+ She comes from Viet Nam She is wearing an Ao

dai

+ He comes from Scotland He is wearing a kilt

+ She comes from India She is wearing a Sari

+ He comes from the USA He is wearing a Cowboy

+ She comes from Arabia /əˈɹeɪbiə/ She is wearing a

Veil

Step2 While reading :(16’)

- Now look at “ Listen and Read “ and turn on the

tape Then complete the sentences , using the

information from the passage

- Call on some Ss to read their answers aloud

- Correct and give the correct answers :

1 …poems , novels and songs

2 long silk tunic with slits up the sides worn over

loose pants

3 To wear modern clothing at work

4 ….lines of poetry on it

5 Symbols such as suns , stars , crosses and stripes

- Ask them to read the text aloud in front of class

- Have Ss read the text again and answer the questions

- Ask them to exchange their results and compare with

a friend

- Call on some pairs to practice asking and answering

- Listen and correct mistakes if any

- Give correct answers :

1 Traditionally , men and women used to wear the Ao

- Repeat all the words in chorus and individually

- Listen carefully

- Listen and copy down

Ss read the text again and answer the questions

- Practice answering the questions

Step3 Post –reading : (10’)

- Get Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer the

questions about the Ao dai

- What color is popular with Ao dai ?/ with students at

high school ? / with the middle – aged …?

- Go around and help them if necessary

- Call on some pairs to practice in font of class

- Remark and correct mistakes

IV.Summary (2’)

- To know something about Ao dai, the traditional

dress of Vietnamese women

- Say something about ao ba ba

Áo bà ba or Vietnamese silk ensemble) is a traditional

southern Vietnamese garment It is most associated with rural southern

Vietnam, especially in the Mekong Delta Often worn as a top and bottom

set, the áo bà ba is typically a long-sleeved, button-down silk shirt with a

scooped neck paired with silk pants The shirt will be somewhat long and

split at the sides of the waist, forming two flaps, customarily with two

pockets [1]

Áo bà ba (hay lụa Việt Nam) là một loại trang phục truyền thống của

miền Nam Việt Nam Nó gắn liền nhất với vùng nông thôn miền Nam

Việt Nam, đặc biệt là vùng đồng bằng sông Cửu Long Thường được

mặc như một bộ, áo bà ba thường là một chiếc áo lụa dài tay, cài cúc

với cổ cạp kết hợp với quần lụa Chiếc áo sơ mi sẽ hơi dài và xẻ ở hai

bên eo, tạo thành hai vạt, thường có hai túi [1]

- Compare with their friends

- Read their results in front of class

- Look at the subordinate board to repeat all the new words and copy

- Listen carefully

- Look at the table in the book and work in pairs to answer the questions

- Demonstrate in the front

- Read the example in the

front of class as examples in the book

- Call on some representatives to demonstrate

- Correct and give the suggested answers :

Huong said that she liked to wear faded jeans on the

weekend because she felt very comfortable

Lan said that a colorful T –shirt was his favorite type

of clothing

People said that the blue uniforms of their school were

very beautiful and comfortable

IV Summary(1’)
