Động từ (một vần hoặc hai vần có dấu nhấn trọng âm ở vần thứ hai) tận cùng là một phụ âm, trước đó chỉ có một nguyên âm: gấp đôi phụ âm +
“ing”
(run – running) (begin – beginning)
Động từ tận cùng là “ie”, đổi “ie” thành → y + ing (lie → lying)
Đối với động từ đặc biệt (was, were, could, ), thêm “not” vào chính các động từ đặc biệt nếu là câu phủ định, và đảo chính các động từ đặc biệt ra trước chủ từ nếu là câu hỏi.
Cách thêm “ED” vào sau động
từ hợp qui tắc:
→ Động từ tận cùng bằng “e”, chỉ thêm “d”.
→Những động từ tận cùng là “y”, trước nó là một phụ âm, y chuyển thành → i + ed
(study → studied)
Nhưng trước “y” là một nguyên âm thì giữ nguyên y + ed
(play → played).
