We use the present simple:

for something which is always true (a fact): The sun rises in the east.

for something we often/usually do: He watches television every evening.

with verbs which describe a state not an action (like, love, hate, understand, believe, want,

We use the present continuous:

for something which is happening at the moment of speaking: Where’s Jenny? She’s
