TITLE: Krone - Highband 10 Module Transmission Testing
1 BACKGROUND
PDI was requested by Krone (Aust) Technique Pty Ltd to carry out transmission tests on a sample Highband 10 module to
determine whether or not the sample was compliant with
Standard ANSI/TIA/BIAS68A ("the Standard") Category 5
transmission performance requirements
2 AIMS OF TESTING
1 Carry out the transmission testing 1 - 100MHz for
attenuation, return loss and near-end crosstalk in accordance with the procedures set out in the
Standard
2 Based on test results, provide advice as to whether
the product was compliant with the Standard requirements for Category 5 transmission performance
3.1 Test Setups
Refer to APPENDIX 1 for schematic diagrams of the applicable test setups Refer also to Section 5 below for details of the
test equipment used to perform the testing
3.2 Range of Tests Performed
The following tests were performed at 1O0OMHz on the first port
of the patch panel module sample provided:
Attenuation on all four pairs Near-end crosstalk on all six pair combinations Return loss on all four pairs
3.3 Test Leads
Connection to sample was via UTP category 5 solid twisted pair conductors Where applicable, attenuation due to the test
leads was factored out of the measurements by the network
analyser calibration procedure

TITLE: Krone - Highband 10 Module Transmission Testing
For the attenuation measurements, a 14dB attenuator was
inserted in series with the twisted pair send lead to the
device under test (DUT} in order to prevent inaccuracies
caused by line reflections
Where the readings were thought to exceed the noise floor or limit of dynamic range of the network analyser, the reading was recorded as greater than this limit, rather than recording the actual reading This was done to avoid showing misleading results
In all cases, such readings were a long way past the required passmark for the respective parameter being measured
4.1 Summary of Test Results
The following provides a summary of product performance for the ports tested
Where a "fail" is indicated, the number of instances of
failure to comply with the Standard requirements is also
indicated in brackets, followed by the total instances that test was performed
4.2 Conciusions
From the test results, the following conclusions may be drawn:
1 The product sample exceeds Cat 5 transmission performance
requirements, by a large margin in all instances for all the required transmission parameters
