PART A: INTRODUCTION

I REASONS FOR CHOOSING THE RESEARCH.

1 Rationale.

Nowadays the trend of International Integration in many fields that includes Education system has taken English to a very important position English is a communication tool and also the key treasure to humanity On the other hand, the extensive application of information technology has made the English language learners become urgent and indispensable Learning and using English required a process of creative exercise diligence from both the learner and the instructor Through the practicing

in my school, I found that most students like learning foreign language when starting, but gradually bored Most of them are very weak at listening It's hard for them to understand the internal hearing what a text or dialogue is about After each lesson, most students pay knowledge to their teacher

Under these circumstances that student have been studying English language in secondary school for 4 years, I have worked as a English teachers of Grade, I myself really concern how students can master, listen and manipulate mature information During teaching process in school and watching how students learn, I realized that the practice writing skills of the students have a lot of problems Most of students do not know how to learn writing, learn students often find the most difficult in writing

In fact to have been writing skills in English, the school must have the writing exercise routine lasting forms and different content Research on this topic, I hope to help students will be more active and aggressive in acquiring, understanding a profound knowledge of the lesson

Of all reasons above, I strongly research and test subjects: SOME EFFECTIVE STEPS HELP STUDENTS IN 10 BASIC CLASSES IN TRIEU SON 3 HIGH SCHOOL IMPROVE WRITING SKILL Hoping to contribute a small part in it adjust teaching methods to

achieve better efficiency

2 Practical basic:

Most students when they are asked “Do you like learning English?” the answer is yes, even the mention of the problem of vocabulary, most responded that they dislike Because they think learning English is difficult to remember vocabulary and structures, almost afraid to learn and lazy students learn vocabulary English in a caring way, so that they are not interested in writing

According to Byrne (1979), wrote that "activities of a series of icons arranged

by convention to form words and words are arranged into sentences" In this view, we can notice any activity that make up the words / sentences, whether meant or not, are considered to be"written" Write, given the known theoretical subject is not simple as the concept that Byrne launched It is a complex process which, according to Lannon (1989) have defined "is the process of converting the material was discovered by inspiration, randomized, trials and errors, or anything in the message with meaningful - Writing is a

However, writing is one of four key skills are emphasized in each unit of study in current textbooks However, this is a difficult skill and virtually no preparation and technical training in the learning process because the former students Graduation Exam test forms Since high school graduation exam this year 2014- 2015, students must take additional self- expression and this will make them not choose subjects in English to their official competition To prepare for the English exam, I propose some skills of key points for each category written in upper secondary programs, namely writing and writing something like for each category there

on the form and because such differences with their classes teach students is an important step to build the optimal plan for each hour taught, so that all students achieve the best performance

- To show how to write a profile and a letter

III Scope, object and researching method

- This topic focuses on high school students studying English in English classes’ amateurs as specialized courses in Physics, specializing in Biology, specializing in Literature, specializing in History This topic can also be applied in the English lessons in secondary schools other

- This subject is concerned with ways of writing

- Reading reference books, discussing with other teachers, applying in teaching, observing and drawing out experiences

IV Methodology.

- Intuitive Method: Self document researching, teaching experiment, observe the progress of students, conducting planned hours, visits the class to learn from experience, supplemented, adjusted timely teaching methods

- Methods to exchange and discuss: after attending hours, talk to colleagues to have teaching methods more effective

- Method of test and evaluation: using questionnaires to survey students, design students two equivalent groups, the experimental group’s new method, conventional teaching groups: test, assessment progress in the skills and knowledge of grammar

PART B: PROBLEM SOLVING.

I Introduction.

The teacher must clearly define the tasks of teaching and learning to write English,

we have determined to teach students English vocabulary is to help students make good the skills of reading, listening, speaking, write fluently Students develop vocabulary; Have the ability to choose to write an essay or a letter, the clear arrangement

sentence.Train thinking abilities rich imagination and ability of students to use the word.Thereby helping students confident, capable of conduct, flexible communication and the ability to use English in daily life and in everyday life

The most important thing ever students learned and developed is skills test exams and do not focus on writing skills, as this is the first year they are facing a lot of changes

in the examination To good students are new challenges to overcome and with weaker students are gradually clear progress Therefore, teaching methods and management of teachers should always abundant, flexible In this theme, I strongly suggest some ways to write an essays and a letter

Specific methods include:

- General outline for letter

- Some suggested expressions

- Example (Unit 4- Part D: writing -English 10)

- Profile writing

- Example (Unit 12- Part D: writing - English 10)

II The process of writing.

According to Tribble (1996) , written with 4 -step process :

1 Before you write : These are steps that the writer done before the draft , including the

selection of themes , thoughts , notes , discussions, arranging ideas , outline , gathering information (For example, interviews, searching for information in libraries, data processing)

2 Write a draft: Writing the draft is the writer put ideas into sentences, paragraphs, and

concentrate on explaining, clarifying ideas and link ideas

3 Revise: This is an important step to have a complete text The writer will think about

what the readers expect, the reader was written towards the center For example, refine texture and association of ideas or more conjunctions

4 Editors: Written formal review of articles such as spelling, grammar, punctuation

As we see from the point of view, writing is a one-way process does not involve the reader Reid (1993) also made the same point but added three more steps of the writing process: feedback, evaluation and after writing This makes the process of Reid wrote more satisfactory

III Some steps to carry out the writing lesson effectively:

1 Presentation:

General outline for letter

Before we start writing a letter it is important to think about who we are writing

to If we use the strong style, the letter will look odd, silly or impolite For example, if we wrote to a company and used informal language, the letter would look impolite In the same way, if we wrote to a friend and used formal language, the letter would look odd There are certain factors which help us decide whether a letter is formal or informal These are:

- The opening of the letter ( e.g Dear Sir/ Madam; Dear Mary,)

- The topics in the letter (e.g when formal, they should be only facts)

- The language used (e.g formal or informal)

- The closing of the letter and the name at the end of it (Yours sincerely, Peter Brown/ Love, Peter, etc…)

Personal letters

A personal letter is one written to a friend or an acquaintance to communicate across the miles Shorter letters, called notes, are commonly used:

- To send an invitation (for dinner, a party, etc…)

- To say thank you (for a gift, a special dinner, etc…)

- To express congratulations (for an award, a graduation, the birth of a baby, etc.)

- To show sympathy (for death, illness, or accident)

For example, if you are writing a letter to a personal friend or relative, there is less formality in the layout:

- The margin at the left side of the letter

- The address and closing are placed the same distance from the right margin

- Commas are used between the day and the year in the address, but not at the end of each line of the address

- Commas are also used after the greeting, and after the closing

3 PROFILE WRITING.

THERE ARE FIVE TIPS FOR A PROFILE OF A PERSON.

1 Read other profiles: To know how to write a profile essay, read how other writers do

it Look for what information the writer presents about the subject At the end of the piece, see if you have any lingering questions to make sure you fill those gaps in your own story

2 Do your prep work: When you know who the subjects of your piece is, start doing

some prep work Research the person if they are well-known It will be easy to find information online

3 Create outline:

4 Choose the suitable tense.

5 Use suitable preposition and conjunction.

In my point of view, I only want to lay tress on the strategy to teach each kind of exercise in writing lesson In general, there are many kind of exercises in writning lesson:

Writing about people’s background, writing a letter of complaint, writing a comfirmation letter, writing a letter of invitation, writing a letter of acceptance or refusal, writing a profile, etc.

So for each kind of exercise, I have chosen each different strategy

2 FOR WRITING A LETTER OF COMPLAINT:

STEP 1: Ask students read the advertisement or the information carefully.

STEP 2: Ask the fact carefully, too.

STEP 3: Give students linking words.

STEP 4: Show the opening and the conclusion of the letter on the screen.

EXAMPLE:

UNIT 4: (English 10) SPECIAL EDUCATION.

Part D: Writing (Page 50)

Task2: Using the information from the dialogue in task 1, complete the letter of complaint below.

STEP 1: Ask students give full sentences of the content in the advertisement.

1 The teachers are only native speakers

2 There are no more than 20 students per class

3 Books and cassette tapes are free

4 All rooms are air conditioned

5 The class starts at 5:30 p.m and finished at 8:30 p.m

STEP 2: Ask the fact carefully, too.

1 They are only few native teachers, not all of them are native ones

2 My class has over 30 students

3 I had to pay for them expensively

4 My classroom is not air-conditioned and it is in a bad condition

5 Classes often start late and finish early

STEP 3: Give students linking words.

STEP 4: Show the opening and the conclusion of the letter on the screen.

- Ask students to use each of the linking word above to write a full sentence about the same thing in the advertisement contrast with the fact

- Ask students exchange their letter and have seft – correction

- Correct general mistakes on the board
