2 Warm up (5’)
Activity: Act It Out
- T choose a student to come to the front of the classroom
- T show him/her a phonics card from the previous unit or whisper a word and ask the student to act it out
- The remaining students try to guess the correct answer
- The first student to have the correct answer comes to the front of the class and the activity continues
3 New lesson (30’)
* Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat Colour (7’)
- T use a card with letter Yy (or write on board the
letter Yy) to introduce to the students the new
lesson
- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name
and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter

- Teacher prepares photocopies of a page/ pages
from some story books
- Ask the students to work in pairs

- In a limited time, the pair/ group has circled the
most Ww is the winner.
Activity 2: Listen and point Color (7’)
- T points to the van and say: Where is the well?
- Have students listen and repeat
- Have students look at the book and listen to the
words: well, watch, window.
- T asks students listen and repeat the words for
several times
- Repeat with the rest of the items in random order
- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures on
the side and color the pictures
- Ss color the pictures
- T go around the classroom asking students to
name the items they are coloring

2 Warm up (5’)
Activity: Pass the phonics card
- T divides Ss in 2 teams (make sure 2 teams have the same number of members)
- T gives the first student of each team a phonics card
- T say: ‘Go!” then the students say the words in the card and pass it over their heads to the student behind them, who continues saying the word and passing the card to the behind one
- The last student in each line races to hand their phonics card to the teacher and say the word
- The first team to do so wins (or wins a point- then continue the game)
- While the students are passing the cards, teacher can say: “Stop” and ask the students holding the cards say the word loudly If the student holding the card says the word correctly then he/ she wins a point for his/ her

Activity 1 Listen Read Along (10’)
- T asks Ss: Can you see /j/- yo-yo Point to it.
- T encorage the students to point to the picture
of the word that the teacher says
- T plays the CD Have the students listen to
the story once
- Ss listen to the story once
- Play the CD again The students listen and
point to the pictures of the key words when
they hear them in the story
- Read the story The students follow in their
books
- Teacher reads the printed words then let the
students look at the pictures and say the words
- T asks Ss work in pairs One reads while the

- T prepare some phonics cards (from this
lesson and previous unit)
