The Captain and the Enemy is a novel written by Graham Greene in 1988 It is a story about a boy, Victor Baxter, whose father (whom he calls “The Devil”) loses him in a game to a man

known as the Captain The Captain, whose real name is never revealed, appears to be some

sort of criminal The boy has been taken away from his boarding school, and he is brought up

by a woman called Lisa, the Captain’s mistress From time to time the Captain returns to visit
