UNIT 3:WHAT DAY IS IT TODAY?

Lesson 3: Part 1-2-3

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- identify pronounce three sounds of the letters -ir -ur, -er

- listen correctly two sounds of the letters -ir -ur, -er

- express their interests to English through the chant

II Teaching aids :

1 Teacher’s: book, pictures, CD and computer

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

III Procedure:

A.Warm up: Slap the board

Step 1 - Introduce how to play the game

Step 2 - Play in 2 groups

*** Observation and giving feedback (T and Ss): speed, accuracy

- Repeat the words

B New lesson

Act 1 Listen and repeat

Step 1 - Look at the words with sound of the letters -ir -ur, -er

Step 2 - Listen to the CD and repeat

Step 3 - Some Ss to read aloud the words and sentences

*** Oral: Give comments: (T and Ss): pronunciation

Act 2 Listen and circle Then say aloud

Step 1 - Give instruction

*** Q-A: ask some questions to check understanding about the task

Lesson 3: Part 4-5-6

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- read and understand the passage about activities in a week

- write about their weekend activities

- express the Ss concern towards their friends by asking about their weekend activities

II Teaching aids :

1 Teacher’s: book, pictures, CD and computer

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

III Procedure:

A Warm up:

- chant “What do you do on… ?” and clap their hands.

** T observes, focus on lyrics, rhythm and pronunciation

B New lesson

Activity 4: Read and answer

Step 1 - Read the passage about Mai and answer the questions

Step 2 - share their answers

Step 3 - T calls some pupils to read their answers aloud.

** Q-A: T asks some questions to check Ss’ understanding

Key:

1 Her name's Mai.

2 It's Monday.

3 No, she doesn't.

4 She goes swimming on Saturdays and visits her grandparents on Sundays

Activity 5: Write about you

Step 1 - Discuss what they do in this task

- identify dates and months in a year

- ask and answer questions about what date it is, using What is the date today? - It's

- express their concern about time by asking about dates

II Teaching aids :

1 Teacher’s: book, pictures, CD and computer

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

III Procedure:

A Warm up:

- have Ss sing the song 7 days of the week

** Quick note: vocabulary (7 days of a week)

- How many people are there in the picture?

- Who are they?

- Where are they?

- What are they talking about?

Step 2 - T plays the recording and Ss listen and repeat twice

- Have Ss repeat in chorus

Step 3 - Role play

** Oral comments (pronunciation, intonation and sentence patterns)

Activity 2: Point and say.

Step 1 Focus on the structure, pre-teach vocabulary

Vocabulary: first, second, third, ….January, February, March ,….

Step 3 - Point and say, using the sentence pattern:

Step 4 -Some pairs ask and answer in front of the class

*** Oral comments: give comments and praise (pronunciation, attitude and structure)

Step 1 Have Ss play game "What's the date?"

Ss choose one sheet of calendar that T prepared And they stick that on the back of their friends Ss go around, show their backs and ask their friends to know the dates

Step 2 - Go around and play game

** Observation: focus on pronunciation, communication, structure.

+ 2nd: stop each sentence in the song and asks sing along

Step 2 - Sing in groups

- Divide class into three groups and song Which group song are good, that group is the winner
