What is Mensa?

Mensa is a society where the sole qualification for

membership is to have attained a score in any super- vised test of general intelligence which puts the appli- cant in the top two per cent of the general

population

Founded in 1946 in Oxford, England, Mensa has grown into the international organization which it is

today with some 85,000 members worldwide The

name Mensa is Latin for ‘table’ indicating a round table society which aims to include intelligent people

of every opinion and calling, where no one member,

or group of members, has special preference or has the right to speak for Mensa as a whole; in fact, all its

members are of equal standing within the society The aims of Mensa are quite simply social and intel-

lectual contact between people worldwide; research into the opinions and attitudes of intelligent people;

members through correspondence, meetings, think- ins, dinners, special interest groups, magazines, lectures and international gatherings, and it also provides members with the opportunity to exchange, and try out, new ideas and opinions
