1 Who: Dùng để thay thế cho một danh từ chỉ người ở vị trí chủ ngữ (Có thể thay thế cho whom trong
mệnh đề quan hệ hạn định nếu trước đó không có giới từ)
Ex: The student is very friendly He lent me this book
The student who lent me this book is very kind.
The boy can speak three languages He sits next to me

2 Whom: Dùng để thay thế cho một danh từ chỉ người.
Ex: The girl works for the British Airways Scott is speaking to her
The girl whom Scott is speaking to works for the British Airways
3 Whose: Dùng để thay thế cho một tính từ sở hữu (Sau whose luôn luôn là một danh từ)
Ex: The boy lives near here I know his mother
The boy whose mother I know lives near here.
The table is now being repaired Its legs are broken

4 Which: Dùng để thay thế cho một danh từ chỉ sự việc, sự vật hay con vật.
Ex: The house is Diana’s house It has a swimming pool

I like the dog which is lying in front of the fire.
She didn’t pass the exam It makes me surprised

5 The + n + of which: Dùng để thay thế cho một tính từ sở hữu của vật

6 That:
- Dùng để thay thế cho who, whom, which trong mệnh đề quan hệ hạn định.
- Khi danh từ đứng trước là một hổn hợp danh từ giữa người và vật
Ex: Tom and his dog were walking along the street I met them yesterday
Tom and his dog that I met yesterday were walking along the street
- Sau một danh từ có chứa đựng
Ex: The last man was the captain He left the ship
The last man that left the ship was the captain
- Sau các đại từ bất định như: some, any, much, none, all, someone, nobody, everything
