Period 19 unit 2 – lets talk

lesson 1

I Aims and Objectives.

1 Aims. Helping Ss to talk about the physical state and express concern Disable student: helping her/him to listen and write the question and answer about physical state

2 Objectives: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to ask about their friend’s heath using structure: “What’s the matter? ” and express concern

II Teaching aid: Picture, cassette, 2 puppets, cards

IV.Procedures:

(3’) 1 Warm up/ Review:

Teacher greets Ss and call the roll for the

attendance

* Dialogue Musical Chairs

T divides the class into 4 groups Ss hang the

name card The chairs were put into 4 lines The

number of the chairs is less than one of the

number of Ss 4 lines chairs are put along the

class room T plays

“ The Hi song”

- T suddenly stops the music

The one who didn’t get the chair is lose the

game

*Lead-in: Have you ever got a cold? How do

you feel?

Ss greet The teacher and Respond

Listen and play the game

Ss listen to music then go round the class they call their friend’s name and

ask: How are you ? Fine thank you

Ss quickly run back to the chairs

(10’) 2.New lesson:

A Presentation :

a.Introduce the vocabulary:

T hands the picture No 151( sick) to the student

to look at T touches the head or the belly to

pretend to have a headache or a bellyache then

groans with a pain and talk I m sick “ ’ ” T asks

- T calls some Ss to stand up and do again and

repeat: “ I’m sick”

Do the same way with other vocabulary words

Look, Listen and repeat chorally.

Usage tip:

The word Sick is used to express the physical “ ”

state such as( illness)or ( cold) stomachaches,

headaches… But it isn t use to express for

( Broken bones, external injuries )

b.Present the first part of the dialogue.

T uses the puppets to model the dialogue

Dramatize the voices of the puppets.

Puppet A: Hi.( Ken)! What’s the matter?

Puppet B I’m sick.

T repeats puppet A, helps Student to present as

the Puppet B then exchange

B Open your book:

*Asks Ss open their books p 38

Talk about the illustration of the page T: Who is

he/she? What is this? etc.

Play the cassette.( 2 sentences only)

- Play the cassette again pause after each line

(Picture cue drill)

GA:(Puppet A: : Hi ( Ken)! What’s the matter?

GB:( Puppet B: I’m sick

C Extension.

*Conversation Lines

Ask Ss to stand into equal lines, facing each

other Each student should form a pair in the

opposite line Students in each pair greet and ask

their partners about their physical state

S1 Hello Nam

S2: Hello Nga, What s the matter ?

S1: I m sick.

Then the two lines move in opposite directions,

one to the left and one to the right, so that each

student has a new partner during the second

rotation, students greet each other with I m sad

T: Who are they?( They are Lisa and John)

T asks Ss to discribe the picture, and each person in it

* T plays the tape, Ss look, listen and point to the student in the picture when they hear the name of that student

T plays the tape again, the whole class repeat

* Present the paradigm and constraction on page 10

- T writes the paradigm on the board.pointing to the letter when playing the tape.Ss repeat

- T points to the letter on the board when Ss talking

- T writes the constraction on the board

That is = That’s

T helps Ss to read in both ways

- T points to the letter on the board when Ss practice reading

II.Practice ( Step away lines)

-T asks Ss to stand into two lines ( Face to face) practicing the D

- T goes round the class to check and correct if necessary

III Extension ( Games)

* Before class, T asks 6 Ss (secrectly) pretent as if they was sick.When their friend

asks question: What s the matter? They will answer they were sick

- T asks Ss to go around the class and find the sick By using question: What s the

matter.if the one who wasn t sick keeps silently. But the one who was sick will continues practicing the dialogue.

Note: when play the game the one who were sick must go and asks question as the other

* Living Sentences:

T divides the class into small groups.each group gets one sentence in the Let’s Talk.

Lisa: Hi John.What’s the matter?

John :I’m sick.

Lisa:That’s too bad Get better soon!

John: Thanks

What’s the matter? I’m sick That’s too bad.

- T lets one student in each group to say one word in the sentence Ss must arrange the sentence as the original one.after living the sentence the whole class living the whole dialogue

4: Homework

- T guides Ss how to do the homework page 10 at home.
