Unit 6: An excursion

Lesson 1 - Reading

I Objectives:

1 Education aim: Understand the letter about the beauty spots in Vietnam such as: Thay pagoda, Huong pagoda in the North of Vietnam

2 Knowledge:

- General knowledge: Guessing meaning in the context, passage comprehension

- Language: Vocabulary comprehension : matching

3 Skills: Scanning for specific information Use the new words which relate to the topic in speaking, asking and answering activities

II Method: Mainly communicative.

III Teaching aids: Pictures showing parts of the equipments of computers Extra

board

IV Procedure:

Warm up (4 mn)

- Make some questions: (Write on the

blackboard or speak out)

1 Suggestions for types of vacation.

+ What activities do you like doing when

you have a few days off?

2 Can you know to use this machine?

- Ask students to work in pair

- Check and write the answers on the

blackboard

Lead in the new lesson: Special education

Pre-reading (7 mn)

- Ask sts to work in pair to make a guess

the name of some places in the pictures

- Ask sts to work in pair

- Go round and help

Task 1: Answer the following questions:

- Write the questions on the blackboard

and read aloud

1 What do people use the computer for?

2 What can be other purposes of using

computers in the future?

- Ask students to work in pair

* Now: - To get information

- to send or receive mails

- to type documents

Listen and answer:

- Work in group

- Work in pair

* Suggestions: -Going abroad/ visiting a

foreign countries/ Travelling to cities/ Travelling through their own country by car or train/ Visiting friends or relatives

- Taking a bicycle tour/ going camping/ hiking (cuộc đi bộ đường dài)/ fishing/ relaxing at the beach

- Work in pair.

- Picture number 4: "Valley of love" in

Dalat.

- Answer the questions

*Future: - to do the shopping

- to design houses, bridges, building

Task 2: Match each number with one of

the words or phrases in the box

- Guide students to open the book and do

exercise

- Ask students to work in pair to discuss

and connect the parts of the machine

While-reading (20 mn)

- Play the recording or read aloud

- Ask students to listen to the tape

(reading) carefully and pay attention to

the new words in the text

- Get students to read silently the

underlined words in Task 1

- Ask students read in chorus the difficult

words in the text

Activity 1:

Task 1: (Page 55) Match the word or

phrase in A with its definition in B

- Guide the students to make a guess of

meaning of words

- Ask students to work in pair or group

- Goes round and helps if necessary

- Ask some students to read each word

then change to Task 2

Activity 2: Decide which of the three

options below is the best title for the

passage

- Ask students to work in group and

choose one best option

- Guide students to check information in

the text to answer

Post-reading (12 mn):

- Ask students to work in group and tell

about the special class

- Homework: Write about an excursion

which you enjoy most

- to give advice

- to cure diseases

- Keys answers:

- Listen to the tape (reading) carefully and pay attention to the new words in the text

- Read silently the underlined words in Task 1

- Read in chorus the difficult words in the text

- Keys answers:

- Work in pair or group

- Read each word

- Work in group and choose one best option
