1 Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to write a paragraph about advantages and disadvantages of television

2 Materials :

Textbook, blackboard, the suggested sentences, Ao paper (Crossword)

3 Anticipated problems:

Ss may find it dificult to find the main ideas in a paragraph

4 Procedure:

10’ WARM-UP:

- Greet Ss

- Introduce game: crossword

- Give out a crossword which has 10 horizontal lines and one vertical line

The word in the vertical line is made

of 10 letters in the 10 horizontal lines

- Give the definition/ suggested sentences of the words in the horizontal line

- Ask Ss to work individually and find what are words

- Give Ss 5 minutes to finish

- Note: all the words are learnt before

- The suggested sentences:

1 The synonym of “speak”

2 Mrs Tham is our…… teacher

3 The antonym of “like”

4 …… programs are shown on TV at 7:00 p.m

5 An another name of “Film”

6 If you want to see the beautiful dresses, you watch …….programs

- Greet teacher

- Listen

- Look at the board

- Work individually

- Call on some Ss to write your answers

on the Ao paper that is hung on the board

- Check and give correct answers:

- Give examples:

Eg: 1 We can bring the radio everywhere

2 Radio does not provide the pictures

- Ask Ss to point out which sentence is good and bad

- Ask Ss to give new words and then explain them

- Write on the notebook

Task A: Read the paragraph about the

advantages of Television Then write them

on the blanks

- Ask Ss to read the paragraph and find the advantages of television

- Ask Ss to work in pairs

- Ask Ss to write them in the blanks

- Give Ss 5 mins

- Go around the class and provide help if necessary

- Tell Ss to compare the answers with other friends

- Pick up some Ss to answer and ask Ss

to write them on the board

- Ask Ss to give other answers if they disagree

- Check and give correct answers:

1 Educational (children learn from TV programs)

2 Informative (people know more about the world)

3 Entertaining, relaxing (people relax)

4 Good for old people (old people do not feel lonely)

- Ask Ss to list names of educational programs which are good for children

to learn

- Pair work

TASK B: Read the paragraph about the

disadvantages of television and fill in the

blanks with one of the words or phrases

- Explain the functions and use of transition words in the box

1 First of all/ firstly: introduce sequence

2 Finally/ at last: introduce sequence

3 In addition/ moreover/ furthermore:

introduce an additional idea

4 As a result: introduce a result

5 On the whole: introduce a conclusion and summary

- Check Ss’ understanding

- Have Ss work individually and fill in the blanks

- Give Ss 4 mins

- Go around the class and provide help if necessary

- Pick up some Ss to answer and read aloud their answers in front of the class
