I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 Read and say the three Xxwordscorrectly

 Recognize and say an extra Xx word correctly

Vocabulary: Ox, box, taxi, six

2 Skills:

- Develop Ss reading, writing, speaking and listening skills

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson

Work hard

III TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

II TEACHING METHODS:

- Work in pairs , individual, in groups …

2 Warm up :5’

Activity: Unscramble the words

Put up the ox, box, taxi phonics cards on the board.

Write the letters of the words around them in random order

Ask individual students to come to the board and write the words

Play the song from Unit 2 (Track 71), the students listen and sing along

Ask the students to listen and tick the sounds they hear

Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

Activity 2

Show the students the six phonics card Point to it and

say: /ks/ - six Ask them to repeat.

Mime writing the number six and say: /ks/ - six

Encourage the students to do the same

Say the letter The students perform the action and say

the letter and the word (if they can)

Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat

the word

Point to the picture and have students name them

Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures

of words start with the /ks/ sound.

Go around the classroom providing any necessary help

Activity: Craftwork

Ask the students to take out their notebooks

Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter

Xand the picture of the item in their notebooks

Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture

The first three students who finish will present their

letters and pictures to the class

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the x sound Say the x words (Track 72)

* Activity 3:

Write on the board the capital letter X (write slowly

to demonstrate its formation)

Point to it and elicit the sound /ks/

Show the formation in the air (taking care when

facing to the students that the letter is formed the

correct way for them)

Repeat with the small letter x

The students trace the letters in their activity books

Go around and provide any necessary help Ask the

students to say the sound of the letter

* Activity 4:

Explain the activity

First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding

pictures

Check around the classroom

2 Trace and match

Answer keys: 1 Vv- violin

2 Ww- watermelon 3 Xx- box

Write the four words ox, box, taxi, six on four papers

Stick each page to each corner of the classroom

Ask the students to stand up

Say the name of an item and ask the students to face

their faces to the corner with the corresponding word

Eg Teacher: six

Class: (face quickly to the corner with the word

six)

Say slowly at the beginning and quickly later to make

more fun

right?

* Activity 6:

 Explain the activity

Ask the students to join the dots to complete the

picture

Ask them to say what it is

Allow them to colour the picture (taxi) if they want

Go around and provide any necessary help

 Ask the students to look at each picture and the words

below and circle the correct ones

 Understand, recognize and say the three Yy words

Activity: Act It Out

Choose a student to come to the front of the classroom

Show him/her a phonics card from the previous unit or whisper a word and ask the student to act it out

The remaining students try to guess the correct answer

The first student to have the correct answer comes to the front of the class and the activity continues

3 New lesson

* Activity 1: 7’ – apply information technology

Show the students the yo-yo phonic card Point to it

and say: /j/ The students repeat.

Then say /j/- yo-yo The students repeat.

Mime playing with a yo-yoand say: /j/- yo-yo

Encourage the students to do the same

* Activity: Listen, point and repeat Colour

Say the letter, the students perform the action and the

word

Follow the same procedure: /j/- yellow(point to

something yellow), /j/- yacht (rock back and forth from

foot to foot and make wave sounds)

Write the letter Yy on the board next to the phonics

cards Point to it and say: “This is the letter /wai/ The

letter /wai/ makes the /j/ sound The students repeat

both sounds

* Activity 2: 5’

Teacher prepares photocopies of a page/ pages from

some story books

Ask the students to work in pairs/ groups

Hand out the photocopies and ask students to search

for and circle the letter Yy on the page(s)

In a limited time, the pair/ group has circled the most

Yy is the winner

This game can help the students understand the link

between the letter sounds and words in books

Activity: Where’s the letter

Activity 3 (5’)

Point to the yo-yo and say: Yes, I have a yo-yo Yes, it

is yellow! The students repeat.

Do the same procedure for the word yacht

Play the CD The students listen and point

Say: Yes, I have a yo-yo Yes, it is yellow!Ask the

students to point to the corresponding items

Repeat with the remaining item

Ask the students to colour the yo-yo and the yacht

yellow

Go around the classroom ask the students to name the

item they are colouring

e.g Teacher: (pointing to the yo-yo) Yes, I have a …

Student 1: yo-yo! etc

2 Listen and point Colour.

Activity 4 (5’)

Put up the yo-yo, yellowand yachtphonics cards on the

board

Point to the phonics cards and say: /j /- yo-yo, /j /-

yellow, /j/- yacht The students repeat.

3.Chant and show!

Play the CD The students listen, follow in their books

and chant

Ask the students to do the actions of the words when

they chant

Repeat the chant without the CD Keep the rhythm by

clapping hands Pause before the words (yo-yo, yellow,

yacht) and encourage the students to name the items
