Trang 2ABB is providing a large offer of coordination tables needed for any motor supply feeder for which protection against overload and short circuit are mandatory in industrial applications
Choice Guidance For instance, a table given for 80kA is covering the intermediate short circuit leveel i.e 70, 60, kA at the same voltage However, you may find some cheaper solution for lower short circuit levels in the database : the SCPD upstream is calibrated to give the cheapest solution for the whole
combination starter according to the highest shor circuit level
General Remarks
- to read before using the coordination tables Please read those remarks before you start using the coordination They will give you the general data and help you use the tables properly
Following basic functions are achieved :
overload protection, motor control, short circuit protection, isolation
These functions are applied here for standard starters : direct-on-line
(DOL), reverser, star-delta, softstarters
Coordination Types
Any table is in conformity with the standard IEC 60947-4-1 which
defines two types of coodinations : - Type 1 : there is not any risk for
the operator and assets, damage to the starter is acceptable, its
replacement for re-starting is generally necessary - Type 2 : the
single acceptable risk is a light welding of the contactor, that means
the contacts shall be easily separated either by electrical control or
using a tool After a short circuit, whatever its level, re-starting is
allowed after a few verifications : all the protection device functions
are still operational
Short Circuit Protection Devices
The starters given in the tables are protected starters or combination
starters i.e the SCPD (Short Circuit Protection Device) and the starter
are mounted in the same compartment or enclosure Various SPCDs
are proposed : Moulded-Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB), Manual
Motor Starter (MMS), Switch-Disconnector-Fuse or Switch-Fuse
Circuit Breakers or fuses coordinated with starters cannot be
determined directly : tests in Power Laboratories shall be carried out
to qualify the coordination type at low fault and high fault currents

Trang 3General Remarks
Tables are based on 4-pole, 3-phase motor currents
Indicative currents are given.
Magnetic tripping current is everytime indicated and chosen to withstand the sub transient current at the starting phase
Tables are given for 40°C ambient temperature
For higher temperature a derating factor must be applied :
Fuses : 0.8 to In when ambient temperature is 70°C
MCCBs : 0.8 to In when ambient temperature is 60°C
Thermal Overload Relay without derating up to 55°C, 0.9 In at 70°C
It indicates the minimum distances of any metallic plates from the components in order
to avoid any breakdown during short circuit.

Heavy duty star-delta starters
Heavy duty star-delta starters are star-delta starters for which :
- the motor speed reached at the end of the star period is less than 85% of the nominal one, mainly due to the incertainty of the load inertia
- the connecting diagram to the motor is not in accordance with the one described in Main catalogue 1SBC0004

- the dwelling time (transition between star and delta connection) is longer than 80ms
Note : one only of the above conditions leads to "heavy duty" class.
