a WHO: chỉ người, làm chủ ngữ

e.g: The woman is my aunt She is standing overthere
The woman who is standing overthere is my aunt
b WHOM: chỉ người, làm tân ngữ
…N(person) + WHOM + S + V ….
e.g: The man is a famous painter You saw him at the meeting
The man whom (who) you saw at the meeting is a famous painter
c WHICH: chỉ vật, làm chủ ngữ hay tân ngữ

e.g 1: Tet is a festival Tet occurs in late January or early February

d THAT: chỉ người hoặc vật THAT có thể được dùng thay cho who, whom, which.
e WHOSE: được dùng để chỉ sự sở hữu
WHOSE + N + …
e.g: We saw some people Their car had broken down
We saw some people whose car had broken down
THAT luôn được dùng:
a Sau các đại từ bất định: everything, something, anything, nothing, nobody,
all, little, much, none,…
e.g: I’ve never seen anyone that is as nice as you.
b Sau các hình thức so sánh nhất (superlatives): the most, the best, the last, the
first, the only, the very…,
e.g: She is the nicest woman that I’ve ever met.
c Không dùng sau giới từ
- WHERE: thay thế cho nơi chốn.

which on = on which = when

- WHY (for which): thay thế cho lý do, đứng sau the reason
e.g: + Please tell me the reason why (for which) you are so sad
