1.1 Form

* to be (was/ were)

E.g I was at home last night

E.g My brother wasn’t at home last night

* Ordinary verbs (động từ thường)

E.g I came home late last night

1.2 Use:

* To talk about finished actions in the past.

1.3 Time expressions: Simple past tense

- yesterday

- three days/ years/ months ago

- last night/ Sunday/month

- in 1999, in the past

2.2 Use: Present perfect tense (thì hiện tại hoàn thành)

a To talk about actions that started in the past and continue in the present

E.g My grandmother has lived here for all her life

b To talk about actions happened in an indefinite time in the

past

E.g I have lost my keys I can’t find them now

2.3 Time expressions: Present perfect tense (thì hi n t i hoàn ện tại hoàn thành) ại hoàn thành) thành)

- since + a point of time

E.g since 1919, since I was born

- for + a period of time

E.g for ten years, for three hours

- Adverbs: recently, already, yet, never, ever…
