-Reading a passage of 190 – 230 words for general and specific

information about different types of music and roles of it in the life

-Doing the tasks in the book

2 Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to

-Knowledge: scan for specific information about music, enlarge

vocabulary about roles of music in the life, get more information about different types of music

-Language: Improve reading skills (reading for complete comprehension) through Gap-filling, and Answering questions exercises

-Attitude: be more interested in music and make use of it in their life

3 Preparation:

- Teacher: prepare lesson plan, textbook, pictures about musical instruments

- Students: prepare the lesson at home

4 Teaching aids: Textbooks, board, chalks, pictures about musical

instruments

5 Teaching methods: Integrated, pair – working and group - working

6 Anticipated problems: students may not know much about the

charateristics of some kinds of music

7 Procedures:

I.Warm up ( 5 minutes )

- Greeting and checking students’

attendance.

 Give the Game: Guessing the

kinds of music

 Ask Ss work individually, listen

to the songs and guess the kinds

of music

 To understand more about

different types of music, today

we are learning unit 12.

II.Pre-reading ( 10 minutes )

 Introduce general content of the

reading passage

 Practice designed warming-up

activities in the textbook

 Ask Ss some questions

 How many kind of music that

you’ve heard?

-Lead to task :How can you

describe about each kind of music?

 Ask Ss to work in pairs and

match each of the descriptions

to a type of music

 Feedback and give suggested

answers

 Make use of pictures (if any) to

present new vocabulary

 funeral (n) = ceremony for sb

who has died: đám tang.

 communicate (v) : giao tiếp

 solemn (a) = humorless, formal

– solemnity (n):trang trọng,

trang nghiêm.

and do the following tasks.

 Ask Ss to read the passage

individually in silence and do

task 1

 Encourage Ss to guess the

meaning of the words in the

context

 Tell Ss to compare their

answers with a friend

 Call on some Ss to read the

answers aloud in front of the

class

 Give feedback and corrections

 Check and then congratulates the

winner

IV.After you read(8 minutes)

 Ask Ss to work in pairs and

answer the questions in the

book

 Tell Ss to look back to the

passage to get the ideas for the

answers

 Go around the class and provide

help when necessary

 Call on some Ss to give the

answers in front of the class
