Week: 3 Syllable Period: 7

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to

- Pronounce two vowel sounds /i:/ and /i/ correctly

- Use the present and past simple tense and adverbs of frequency correctly

- Develop their language skills: reading, speaking, listening, and writing.

II LANGUAGE CONTENTS:

1 Knowledge:

- General knowledge: Usage of the simple present and simple past tenses Adverbs of frequency.

- Language: Help students pronounce two vowel sounds / i:/ and /i/

- New words: Words related to the exercises

2 Skills: How to distinguish between two sounds i:/ and /i/

III METHOD: - Integrated, mainly communicative.

IV TEACHING AIDS: - Board, chalks, textbook and notebook.

V PROCEDURES:

1 Class organization:

- Greeting

- Checking the attendance

2 Check up: (5’) New words: đối mặt với cái chết, cất cánh, gặp nguy hiểm, vui mừng, dây an toàn,

* Expected answers:

New words: stare death in the face (v-phrase), take off (v), be in danger (exp), overjoyed (a), fasten belt (n) Cues: Student’s answers may vary

3 Presenting the new lesson:

- T gives out 10 to 15 words and asks Ss

to put them under appropriate heading

- T calls on Ss to read their answers

- T emphases all Ss’ answer and lead the

topic of the lesson to the class

I WARM UP (5’) Categorizing

Adverbs: tomorrow, usually, carefully, often beautifully, always, hardly ever,

now, then, here, there, well, badly, sometimes…

- T asks Ss to read all new words

including / I / and / i: / and asks them to

repeat chorally

with a friend and calls on some Ss to read

aloud

- Ss practice reading the given sentences

- Ss pay attention to the words including

the two sounds ( / I /

and / i: / )

- T corrects some mistakes and asks them

to practice more at home

- T asks Ss to work in groups and discuss

about the form and the use of the present

simple tense

- T calls on some Ss to answer some

questions

- Ss discuss about the form and the use of

the present simple tense

- Ss answer the teacher’s requests

- Ss pay attention and take notes if

necessary

1 Review the present simple tense (10’)

- Tell the form of the present simple tense

- When do we use this tense?

- What adverbs of frequency does it go with?

* Expected answers:

Form: (+): S + V(s/es) + O

(-): S + don’t/doesn’t + V + O (?): Do/ Does + S + V + O ?

Use: - describe repeated action, customs and ability

- describe perceptions, feelings or states that occur at the moment of speaking

- describe truth or facts that true at the moment of speaking

- describe a future action (leave, go, walk, arrive…)

Ex1: - We never eat meat in India

- She is never late for school

- As a rule, I get up early.

Ex2: - Sometimes I get up late = I sometimes get up late = I get up late sometimes

* Nếu các trạng từ: never, rarely, seldom…đứng đầu câu thì ta phải đảo ngữ Ex:- Never does she go to the cinema or Seldom did she sing

Exercise 2:

* Expected answers:

3 Review the past simple tense (10’)

- Tell the form of the past simple tense

- When do we use this tense?

- What adverbs of frequency does it go with?

* Expected answers:

-Form: (+): S + V(past form) + O

(-): S + didn’t + V + O (?):Did + S + V + O?

-Use: - describe action that happened over a period of time in the past

- describe an action that was customary in the past

- describe an action with understood adverbs

- describe a future action (leave, go, walk, arrive…)

- Adverbs of frequency: last (day, week, month, year), yesterday, ago…

Exercise 3:
