I Aims :

- By the end of the lesson, the students will know more about birthday celebrations in the world

- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen and specific details

warm-up

Games: “touch and describe”

-Arrange the class into tow groups

-Assign tow groups representatives

-Set up a time limit of 3 minutes

-Blindfold each representative

-Give each team a set of realia in a visible box

-Let the representative choose an object randomly ,one at a time and describe it to the groups members

- the groups members will take turns to name the object and write the word up on the board

- Elicit what words from above are associated with a birthday party

-Ask SS’ birthdays and how often they celebrations in the world

- Transition:

In today’s listening section, we‘ll learn more about birthday celebrations in the world, esp.in the USA

- write down on the board :

Set A

A wrapped gift , an orange, a candle, a pen , a clock, a sweet , a bowl , a spoon , a coke , a hat

Set B

A knife , grapes , a toy telephone,

a CD, a glass, a handkerchief, a ruler , a flower vase, a book

- Put SS into pairs Student A is given a text on birthday celebrations in some place(s) and student B its gapped version -Within pairs, SS ask each other

questions to fill in the gaps

-In turn student B is given a different text and student A its gapped version

-Pairs continue in the same way -The teacher moves around the class and intervenes only where necessary

Vocabulary review

- tell Sts to learn the new words and make some sentences with them, describing a certain person
