A Aims

1 Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:

- Distinguish the clusters /sp /, / st /, / sk /

- Pronounce the words and dialogues containing these clusters correctly

- Use defining relative clauses and non-defining relative clauses appropriately

2 Teaching aids:

- blackboard, chalk, handouts

- textbook, lesson plan

- T checks the number of students and

asks Ss to make some class arrangement

II Checking the old lesson

- T calls on one student and asks

him/her some questions relating to the

previous lesson

- T gives comment and marks

1 Warm- up

- T divides the class into 2 groups, and

lets them play the game: Find out the

words from the letter square Sts can use

the pictures as suggestions

Keys: Stamp, disk, spoon, statue,

scanner, …….

- T checks sts’ answers

- T declares the winner (the winner is

the one that find out more correct

answers)

2 Pronunciation

* Pronouncing the two sounds

- T models the clusters /sp /, /st/, /sk /

for a few times and explains the

differences in producing them

- T plays the tape once for sts to hear the

words containing these clusters

- The monitor reports the number of students in his/her class to the teacher

3 Grammar

a Revision of relative clauses.

* Presentation.

- T writes two examples about the

relative clauses on the board and asks sts

to comment on them

Eg: - The post office which I usually go

to is very large.

- Tan Yen post office, which was

built a long time ago, is very large.

- T elicits the comments from sts and

makes clear that:

+ Defining relative clause: là mệnh đề

thực sự cần thiết ở trong câu Nó được

dùng để giải thích cho danh từ đứng

trước và làm rõ nghĩa cho cả câu vì thế

ta không thể bỏ.

Nó chỉ cung cấp thêm thông tin phụ cho

danh từ vì thế ta có thể bỏ mà câu vẫn

rõ nghĩa MĐQH không xác định thường

đứng sau dấu phẩy Ta không sử dụng

“that” trong mệnh đề này.
