I Objectives:

1 Knowledge: by the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- ask for and give information about the Asian Games

- talk about sports results

2 Skill: speaking

II Teaching aids: textbook, poster, markers, blackboard

IV Procedure:

I Stabilization (1 min)

II Check- up (3mins) :

* Questions –answers:

1 What is the purpose of the Asian Games?

2 How often are the Asian Games held?

* Vocabulary:

+ living or taking place in, on or near water

aquatic

+ value highly  appreciate

+ go before others  advance

+ use of strength or energy to do something

 effort

III Warm- up: (4 mins) : Write the name of sport

beginning letter of Asian country

Malaysia

Vietnam

Korea

China

Thailand

Singapore

Philippines

Brunei

* Key answer:

- T asks Ss to close the book

- Ss are required to check- up the old lesson

* Key answer:

1 The purpose of the Asian Games is to develop intercultural knowledge and friendship within Asia

2 The Asian Games are held every four years

- T puts Ss into 2 teams

- T draws 2 lines on the board containing 2 categories:

“countries” in the left column and

“name of sports” in the right column

- T gives Ss some names of Asian countries

Ss think of a word connected with sport beginning with letter of Asian countries and write down

- The team who has a lot of answers will be a winner

- T leads in the new part: “ from countries and sports given above, the speaking we are going to learn today is the Asian Games

 Basketball, cycling, football, aquatic sports,

athletics and weightlifting competed at the 1st Asian

* Task 1: (10 mins): Repetition and substitution:

Ask and answer questions about the Asian Games

(p 139)

Example:

A: When and where were the 1st Asian Games

held?

B: (They were held) in 1951 in India

A How many countries took part in the games?

B: Eleven

A: How many sports were there at the Games?

B: Six

 Structure:

+ Where + be + S + V3/ V-ed?

+ When + be + S + V3/ V-ed?

+ How many countries participated/ took part in the

Games?

+ How many sports were there at the Games?

 Remember:

+ use “the simple past tense” to refer to events in the

- T writes 3 jumbled sentences and asks Ss to rewrite in the right order

- Ss go to the board and write down their questions and answers

- T asks Ss to open the book and look at the dialogue on page 139

- T reads example one time and asks Ss to repeat

- T gives structure and useful language to Ss

- T asks Ss to practice in pairs by using the information in the table

to substitute for the suitable information

- Teacher moves around to give help

- T calls on some pairs to present their dialogue in front of class

- The others listen and give ideas
