LESSON PLAN

UNIT 13: Hobbies

Lesson 2: Speaking

I Aim:

Teaching students how to ask and answer about a person’s hobbies using appropriate language

II Objective:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to ask and answer about a person’s hobbies using appropriate language taught

III Teaching aids:

Textbook, handouts, chalk, blackboard

IV Anticipated problems:

- The game in the part of Warm-up can be time-consuming, so T should control it well so that it will not affect the time of other stages

- Ss may hesitate to participate in the warm-up, so T should prepare some gifts to motivate them

- While being asked to work by themselves, Ss may not seriously do the assigned tasks, so T should walk around the class to ensure good class management

V Procedure:

Warm-up 8’ - Divides the Ss into two big groups: two rows

on the left – group 1, two rows on the right – group 2

- Introduces the game:

- Play the game

+ There are two identical papers on the board,

in which there are letters in a mixed order

Each piece is for each group

+ Look at your group’s paper and find out as many activities as possible Take turns to go to the board to cross your answer In 5 minutes, the group which has more correct answers will

be the winner The dimensions can be horizontal, vertical, and diagonal

+ The activities are swimming, keeping fish, playing chess, fishing, collecting stamps, watching TV, reading books, and playing computer games.

- Leads in: today we are going to learn how to ask and answer about a person’s hobbies

Activity 1 10’ - Leads in: before you can ask and answer

about a hobby, let’s look at how Huong and Lan do this in the dialogue page 149 textbook

- Asks Ss whether there are any new words and structures, if any, introduces the pronunciation, spelling, meaning, and use

- Ss’ new words and structures can be:

whenever: bất cứ khi nào (+ clause) second-hand book stalls: kind of shop selling second-hand books

classify…into: phân loại (using examples to make clear)

category: class (loại, chủng loại)

- Asks Ss to look at the dialogue and answer the following questions:

+ What does Huong say to know what Lan’s hobby is? How does Lan answer Huong’s question?

+ What question does Huong make to ask about Lan’s ways to collect books? How does Lan answer Huong’s question?

- Listen to T

- Tell T new words and structures, listen to T’s explanation

- Answer T’s questions

+ What does Huong say to ask about the place Lan buys her books? How does Lan answer Huong’s question?

+ What question does Hoa put to ask about Lan’s ways of organizing books? How does Lan answer Huong’s question?

+ What does Huong say to ask about Huong’s plan for the future? How does Lan answer Huong’s question?

- Asks Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs in one minute

- Calls some pairs to read the dialogue out

- Give comments on Ss’ performance

- Do as required

- Listen to T’s feedback

Activity 2 10’ - Introduces task 2 page 149 textbook: now you

will make similar dialogues using suggestions

in task 2 page 149

- Asks Ss to look at the suggestions in task 2

- Asks Ss whether there are any new words If any, give explanation

- Asks Ss to work in pairs to make dialogues similar to the one in task 1 in 4 minutes

- Calls some pairs to perform their dialogues in front of class

- Gives comments on their performance

- Listen to T

- Do as required

- Ask if any new words, listen to T’ explanation

- Work in pairs to do as required

- Perform the dialogues if asked

- Listen to T’ feedback Activity 3 15’ - Introduces task 3:

+ Imagine each of you has your own collection

Work in groups of 4 Ask group-mates about their collection in 8 minutes and fill in the form (see Appendix)

- Walks around to observe and offer help

- Calls some Ss to report their gathered
