Listening

1 Teaching point: Listening skill

2 Student level: 11th form

3 Class size: 46 students

4 Time: 45 minutes

5 Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

+ Talk about their favorite activities and the reasons why they like and dislike

+ Enhance note-taking skill in listening by taking notes and completing sentences

6 Assumed knowledge:

Ss have already known some words and phrases related to the topic hobbies, such as chat on the Internet, ride a bicycle, cook a meal, watch movies, go shopping, etc

7 Anticipated problems

There may not be enough time, so the teacher should be flexible in performing each activity

8 Teaching aids

Textbook, CD, song, A1-sized paper, handouts, black board, chalks

9 Procedure

ACTIVITIES

Before you

listen (7 mins)

Brainstorming

- T writes the word “HOBBY” on the - Ss answer teacher’s

questions

- T asks Ss to call names of their hobbies

- T asks Ss: Do you think students in

foreign countries have the same hobbies If not, what are their hobbies?

- T leads in task 1(part b- page 166).

- The whole class

- Ss listen to teacher

(20 mins)

Part b)

- T plays the tape once

- T asks Ss to take note anything they think

it is important and answer the question given

- T invites 2 Ss to write their answer on the board

- T checks 2 students’ answers with the whole class

- If Ss still confuse, T will play the tape again, and pause when necessary

* Answers:

Andrew likes gardening, being with friends,

going to the park with his family, lying on the sofa and listening to music

Andrew doesn’t like doing house-work,

working far from home.

Part c) Role Play

- T asks Ss to role play + Situation:

A: Next month you will take part in a beauty

- Ss listen to the recording and do part b)

- Ss listen to teacher and correct their answer
