Speaking skill Unit 8: The cities

1 Class description: 40 students, 15 boys and 25 girls

2 Time: 45 minutes

3 Students’ level: Grade 10

4 Objectives:

 After the lesson, students will be able to:

 Use the words, phrase to describe a city

 Make presentation on the topic “your dreamed city” based on the knowledge gained during this period

5 Assumed knowledge: Students have already known some

vocabulary items related to the topic

6 Anticipated problems:

 In the Warm-up activity, the students may answer the question immediately or in a short time, so the teacher should prepare one or two extra questions

 Students may not have sufficient vocabulary to talk about a city, so teacher should be ready to provide some

7 Teaching aids: Text book

8 Procedure:

1 Warm-up

(5 minutes)

 Prepare 1-3 similar pieces of papers, each of which consists

of name of a city

 Ask a student to go to the board and talk secretly to her the name of the city, and then ask her to describe the city

The whole class will join a game named “hanging on”

 Explain the rule of the game to the whole class

 Observe the class and provide structure / vocabulary if necessary

 A student goes to the board

 Ss listen to the T’s explanation

 The rest of the class are expected join the game, guess basing on these Ss’ description

2 Dialogue  Lets students skim the

dialogue in the text book to find the new words

 Explains the new words to the students

 Reads the dialogue as model

 Calls students to read the dialogue

 Divides the class into 8 groups of 5 students

 Asks each group to find out the words, phrases, and sentences used in the

 Skim the dialogue to find new words

 Write new words explanations in their notebook

 Listen to the teacher while she’s reading the dialogue

 Read the dialogue

 Work in groups to find out the words,
